Roger Gonzales hosts "Jazz Blues and More" - Fridays 4pm-6pm
|
Start your weekend off right, every Friday from 4:00pm till 6:00pm with Jazz Blues and More. Each week Roger Gonzales plays an eclectic mix of music ranging from Paul DeLay to The Swan Silvertones, to Kurt Elling and much more. Roger's love of music goes beyond his work on 90.7 KFSR. In fact, Roger is one the Valley's top harmonica players, and is well versed in both jazz and blues. Roger's music career began when he picked up a harmonica at the tender age of 37. After six months in the music school of hard knocks, Roger sought a mentor. He was fortunate to find harmonica master Eddie Gordon as his mentor and continues to be under his tutelage. Returning to college in his forties, Roger has since completed his Bachelor's degree in Music Education and is currently working toward his Masters in Music Education at CSUF. Roger currently teaches music for the Fresno Unified School District and maintains a busy performance schedule. In July 2005, Roger's music was featured in the CSU Summer Arts TV special "Summer Arts Celebrates the Blues" which was the winner of the prestigious "Silver Telly" award, and was broadcast on KVPT Valley Public Television. In the past he has hosted 90.7 KFSR's "Morning Jazz" and "Monday Night Blues" programs. His current program "Jazz Blues and More" can be heard Fridays from 4pm-6pm on 90.7 KFSR.

There's a new place to congregate for the hang at KFSR on Tuesdays afternoons. From 4pm -6pm Jeff Parker hosts Jazz Joint Jump a mix of medium and up-tempo big band and small group jazz that spans over seven decades of jazz history. Jeff has been programming jazz in the Central Valley steadily since his start in 1985, broadcasting a program called Parker's Place on KEAP-AM in 1988-9 and on KAAT-FM from 1989 to 2005.
Jazz Joint Jump includes music from the masters of jazz in the 1930s and 1940s and follows many of the great Swing Era soloists and bandleaders throughout their careers. Attention is also given to the mainstream jazz instrumentalists and vocalists of the 1950s and 1960s swinging the songs of the great songwriters of Tin Pan Alley. You'll also hear a number of modern day jazz musicians and soloists on the play list. From Duke Ellington to Diana Krall, Jazz Joint Jump runs the full gamut of jazz that swings.
