Information Technology Services utilizes many Sun-based UNIX servers
in order to provide reliable, 24 hour Internet and system infrastructure
services to the campus. In addition, we also provide enterprise
services to CVIP--the university dial-up service provider.
Our services to the campus community include:
- Faculty/staff, student, CVIP and State Center email services
using Sun ONE Messaging Server,
- Internet name services using Berkeley's Internet Name Daemon
(BIND),
- Usenet news services to CSUF and CVIP customers using Typhoon,
- World-wide web proxy and filtering proxy using Sun ONE Proxy
Server,
- White pages and authentication LDAP directory servers using
Sun ONE Directory Server,
- Dialup and campus wireless authentication services using Cisco
TACACS and Sun RADIUS,
- Dynamic addressing capabilities provided by Internet Software
Consortium (ISC) DHCP servers for campus and CVIP DSL customers.
At this time, our primary vendor for our Internet system infrastructure
is Sun Microsystems. We utilize Sun's Solaris 8 and 9 operating
environments. Presently, there are approximately 31 Sun servers
being used in our operation. These servers are housed in our
data center on campus at McKee Fisk.
