Campus Facts Reported for 2006

Campus disposed of 9,245 total tons of trash and recycled an additional 7,986.66 total tons for a 86% diversion rate. Outstanding! Here's some of the specifics:

Athletics Department

Uses the services of Allied Waste Services of Fresno for recycling tonnage collected from sporting events. Softball recycled 61.63 tons and football recycled a total of 59.60 tons.

Bottles and cans from football:

Plastic Bottles 3,847 lbs (1.93 tons)
Aluminum cans 924 lbs (.46 tons)
Glass bottles 3,340 lbs (1.67 tons)

Business Source Reduction = Paper Savings

To calculate the number of tons of paper campus saved last year by using email: use 1/4 of total number of emails sent to calculate paper savings. We sent roughly 5.5 million emails with 1/4 being 1.37 million pieces of paper or 6.85 tons of paper saved.

Landscaping & Compost

1,000 tons of compost annually is used in the fields. this compost consists of manure and straw from our livestock units plus leaves collected from around campus. Interested in compost? Learn about Green-cycle, a campus compost generation project.

e-Waste (electronic waste)

Total collects from all campus e-Waste events = 335,960 tons

Library Deconstruction

Library demolition in 2006 contributed the following to recycling:
Concrete 5,846.86 tons
Demolition Debris 1,719.41 tons
Green waste 5.33 tons

Campus Trash Recycled

Paper, bottle, glass = 1,137.11 tons
Concrete (separate from the library) 340 tons
Green waste 5.33 tons

Chestnut Widening Project

Wood recycled from tree removal = 706.50 tons
