Website history: Versions 1.0 - Unknown administrator, layout or dates. Only refernces to its exsistence are in version 2. Speculate circa 1997, Garland indicates Amerasia Week 1997 pics were on the old site. Few descriptions given, not all members in pictures are named. Lack of information on members are the catalyst for creating a members and officers page in version 3. No files beyond pictures from ver 2 are known to exsist. Since no other versions are alluded too, used as origin of version number sequence. This is not to say version 1 'is' the 1997 version if one even exsisted at the time. The pictures may have been scanned and placed in this version. All that is known for sure is that it exsisted on the server until Garland implemented version 2. 2.0 - Admin is Garland Gee, also Admin for the APR. Layout provides for basic web presence. Integrates gallery pictures from a previous version. The Last update made on Monday, September 24, 2001. No information as to when version 2 was implemented and its full duration. Refrences within the site and date of last update indicates was perhaps maintain at least during 2000-2001. Uses HTML 4.0 Transitional (implemented by the WC3 in 1999). It may have exsisted as early as 1997 as a different version. It is unknown how many versions Garland may have implemented. With no information available only what was found on the server is considered ver 2. However, all this is speculative and of yet conconfirmed. No version numbers found. Site abandoned until 2003. 3.0 - Admin is Harim 'Ari' Martinez. President Chong Her and vp May Moua have no knowledge of site exsistence or status. Discovered by Ari, who volunteers to update and maintain site in spring 2004. No site history or version numbers found. Constructs a version sequence, based on references in Garland's pages makes this version 3. With lack of material to put on site, maintains ver 2 structure. GUI layout is changed and given a winXP texture look. Old pictures are placed in an archive page preserving ver 2 html format. Gallery, external links, and graphics are updated. Use of DIV tags needed for positioning to minimized TABLE code complexity. 3.0.1 - File strutcure modified into a different organization. Does not come online as it leads to next version. 3.1 - Second gallery of current pictures added. Events page begun to be used as line of information for reporting on events just passed. Banner graphics are implemented as header descriptions on each page. Minor code tweaks. 3.1.1 - Officer and member pages added. 3.2 Feb 10 2004 - Yahoo Groups links added when Jeff Thao creates unrestriced bbs for members to socialize and provide another communication line. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Amerasia Events page used to report future events. DIV position tags replaced with SPAN for easier formatting. Background code tweaks. 3.2.1 April 12 2004 - Web counter added, provided free by StatCounter.com. Index page used as announcements of future events, events page to announce future meetings and member information updates. 3.2.2 April 30 2004 - By-Laws & Minutes page added. Waiting for full new constitution to be given by president Chong Her. Officers page updated for 2004-2005. New Constitution creates graphic design/webmaster officer position. Harim 'Ari' Martinez continues to wear hat. Also APR admin. Jeff Thao remains BBS moderator. Maintence of Index and Events page is deemed unproductive and annoying. Plan to consolidate the pages results in acknowledgement current version isnt practical for the needs of the organization. Web counter statistics reveals primary visitors in the fresno area followed by california and minnesota users. Limited international exposure. A better site layout is deemed as necessary for better web presensce. Version 4 construction planned for the 2004 summer. 4.0 May 15 2004 - Provides a cleaner more professional look to the site. Graphics are kept to a minimum. New layout combines events and member news into one page. This allows the admin easier updates and more flexiblity in design. Galleries are broken up into year and event triage. New navigation provides better grouping and exploration GUI opportunities. Over all effect is faster load times. Cascading Style sheet used for system wide changes. Does not go online as concerns over redundant code and GUI issues arise. Never completely finished. 4.1.0 June 23 2004 - Given the requirements being sought in implementation, nested IFRAMEs are seen as the practical solution without completely converting to frames to obtain desired GUI feel. Full implementation of frames is never recommended as it diminishes search engine ability. Coding and behind the scenes layout changes are drastic to warrent a sub-version number update. Over all effect: less redunant code, and creation of numerous small files. Planned to be loaded and go online to coincide with official officer transistion during the summer. AA logo voted by org added. History of website added. July 15 2004 - Incumbent president Chong Her creates a restricted Yahoo group for officer communication. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/amerasia_officers August 7 2004 - Goes online. 4.1.1 August 31 2004 - Section added to bylaws page. Member Point System. - In addition Public Service Announcement section is added with disclaimer. - General Member Minutes added. - Birthdates of members added to calendar This constitutes an attempt to keep track of Amerasia's website history, for the historically curious. It is unknown if the version sequence I implemented is absolutely correct. When I took over the Amerasia site, I had very little to go by. The only files available were from the previous webmaster Garland Gee. I based the sequence soley on Garland Gee's pages still on the server. I can only say with resonable certainty that there was Garland's pages, and another older site that he had access to. That made my layout version 3. How many versions Garland may have made prior to the version I found are unknown. Also unknown is if there were any versions prior to the 'old Amerasia site' Garland refers to. My sequence should be pretty accurate. In making my rationals I considered the technical level of the years indicated. HTML 4 did not come into exsistence until 1999. Given the coding manner and layout of version 2 there probably wasnt a Garland site based on HTML 3. DIV tags came into exsistence in HTML 4, if the site was already laid out using HTML 3, then DIV tags would not have made any contribution. From what i know of Garland he was a very active person and might not have had the time to waste on such a consuming conversion which would not have yielded any significant difference to the user or admin. That reasonably indicates (to me at least) that there were no other versions between the 'old Amerasia site' and Garland last one. Then no more updates were made after Sept 2001, it contains a reference to a club meeting in October 2001. The most current pictures being from Amerasia Week 2001, which is held the first week of March. The Garland pages then date approxiamtely ~1999-2001. Now, version 1 is probably a very old site. The 1997 pictures were probably the least oldest, Garland surely would have chosen the least oldest to include on his page. Unless he knew some of the people in the pictures, but he admits he didnt. Version 1 probably had its most current pictures, this by the logic that before being abandoned a webmaster would have the most current pictures or information available. Unless the webmaster of version 1 did as Garland did and took the pictures from an even older site, but did not include pictures of his own. Assuming the 1997 pictures are from a 1997 site then that points to a 2-4 year gap between versions 1 and 2. When version 1 came into exsistence is unknown, and/or if there was any version prior. From the events and weather in the pictures they seem to be from the Spring semester. Perhaps running for the entire 1996-1997 school year. If there was a "version 0" i doubt there was anything before it. As it would place it circa 1995. At the time the university internet system was still in its infacy. A person wanting an email had to get a faculty member to sign for it for academic purposes. Plus webpage hosting was very limited with very few students having the ability to code in html. There was no frontpage or programs to help. A webmaster had to code it all by hand, thus it was in the domain of geeky people in the engineering and science depts. -Ari Martinez 2003-2005 (Yes, i actually enjoy writing n doing this type of stuff. Hey, I'm a geek, n proud of it! Granted if you've actually read this far of this easter egg page, then you are too!) 9/2005 Ok, so I guess I'm webmaster/graphic person for another year! Well, hopefully I'll be able to fix up the code somewhat. It needs tweaking a bit. Maybe get rid of the I-Frames. They have been very useful in that I dont have to include the code all the time on a new page. But I am realizing theres very lil change to the over all layout, so maybe it be better to just go straight html and avoid the frames altogether. After all it would be easier to clean the code up. Shall see how it goes.
