Iota Psi Phi Sorority was founded by six aspiring young women who all shared a desire for a truly diverse sisterhood, free of colorlines and stereotypes. At the time of inception on October 9th 1995, it was felt by the founders of Iota that this need was not yet met at California State University, Fresno. With this, these women took the first step in creating a dream; Iota Psi Phi. Though adversity was met at every level of development and from all corners of the community, the sisters of Iota have succeeded in passing on this legacy, keeping the dream of Diversity very much alive. Iota Psi Phi sisters rely on three concepts as the backbone of the organization, those being Diversity, Integrity, and Education. These concepts melt into every aspect of life as a member. Community Service, Fund Raising, and Social Activities are aimed at reflecting the very foundation of the sorority. Iota's represent their strength with the Black Panther as the mascot.

In addition, the sorority colors chosen by the founders are Black, Brown, and White - all three neutral earth tones. To symbolize the 6 founders of Iota, the white lily is the official sorority flower, adorning as much Iota material as possible. As time passes, the hopes and dreams of our founders continue to grow. Iota Psi Phi recognizes the many ills of this world, however we also recognize the strength and power of people themselves. We know that with true unity we can make changes, for education surpasses ignorance.
