Ambitious students aim to promote Asian cultural heritage at CSU Fresno by forming the Asian Student Association (ASA).
Organized during the fall of 2003 and officially recognized by the University in Feb. 2004,
ASA endeavors to provide members with cultural awareness and direct interaction with the larger Asian American
communities in Fresno through volunteer services.
What differentiates ASA from many other Asiatic campus organizations is the collective diversity of its members and its core objective to build cross-cultural bonds within the association.
ASA seeks to complement the many different Asian ethnicities on campus and throughout the San Joaquin Valley.
Joe Guerra, a counselor for the Student Support Services at Fresno State, is a supportive advisor as well as a direct participant of all of the organization’s functions.
With the dedication of officers and the advisor, ASA has embarked full speed into the school year.
The club looks forward to upcoming fundraising events towards the end of the semester, preparations for a culture night and leadership exploration opportunities.
The organization is currently volunteering for Habitat for Humanity by helping to build homes for low-income families.
One recognizable attribute is the communal bond members have with each other.
It’s not only during regular meetings that members share collectively; the organization provides a harboring relationship with each other.
The bond members share are very prevalent outside the club.
ASA hopes to grow and become recognizable in the community by providing a forum for students to come together.
For those with further interests in ASA, the organization has no membership fees and it is open to college students.
