Bulldog Ice Hockey was formed on the campus of California State University Fresno in 1991. We are a club team that competes on the National Collegiate Level as a member of the Pacific Collegiate Hockey Association (PCHA) as well as the American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA).

The PCHA is divided into two divisions that include teams from throughout California. Fresno State is joined by Santa Clara, Sacramento State, and UC Davis in the Northern Division. The Southern Division is made up of Cal-State Northridge, UC Irvine, UC San Diego, and College of the Canyons. The top six teams will compete in the PCHA playoffs in South Lake Tahoe February 5-7.
The division leaders will earn automatic playoff bids, while the remaining 4 spots will go to the remaining top four teams in the league regardless of division standings.
The ACHA is a nationally recognized league that gives includes over 100 other universities from around the country competing for a National Championship. Fresno State is a member of the Pacific Region and must finish in one of the top four spots in the Pacific to earn a trip to the ACHA Division III National Championship tournament held in Ft. Myers, Florida.
The top two teams in the Pacific Region earn an automatic bid to Nationals.
Teams ranked 3 - 10 will get a bid to Regional’s were they will battle it out for the remaining two spots to Nationals.
The Bulldogs have been a member of the PCHA since 1991 and the ACHA since 2002. In 2008, Fresno State was crowned PCHA North Division champions in addition to finishing 8th overall in the ACHA Pacific Region after a trip to the ACHA Pacific Regional tournament. Freshman Travis Bybee was voted to the 2008 ACHA pacific region 3rd team as a defenseman. Fresno State has a great history of on ice success. In 2002-2003 the Dogs won the Adams Cup trophy as PCHA Champions. During the 2004-2005 season, the Bulldogs were crowned Regular Season PCHA Champions, and earned its first ever trip to the ACHA div. III National Tournament. Fresno State finished 6th in the Nation out of roughly 120 teams. Two members from that team earned 1st and 2nd Team All Tournament honors.

This upcoming season is Marcel Bourdase's third as head coach. He is the third coach in Bulldog Hockey history. Bourdase is an alumnus of the Bulldog Hockey team and hopes to continue to build on the tradition of the program. Esko Siipola, former Fresno Falcons Captain, coached the Bulldogs for 12 seasons, leading them to their first National Tournament. In 2005-2006 the Bulldogs hired Jeff Ferguson, former Fresno Falcons All-Star Goaltender, who coached the Dogs for two seasons.
The Bulldog Ice Hockey Team is a club program that receives limited funding from the University or Athletic Department. Players are responsible for covering the cost of tuition as it is illegal for ACHA sanctioned teams to offer scholarships. Any financial aid must be obtained through the players own qualifications without team assistance. Players can offset the cost of dues through fundraising and sponsorship opportunities in conjunction with local businesses and supporters in the Central Valley Community.
The Bulldogs currently practice three days a week. The Dogs practice at Gateway Ice Center on Monday and Thursday mornings from 6:00-7:15am and Tuesday nights 9:30-11:30pm. Occasionally the team schedules pre-game skates and additional practices throughout the season in conjunction with the schedule. The Bulldogs play their home games at Gateway Ice Center. Fresno State plays between 25-35 games a season depending on their postseason success.
