BULLDOGS FALL SHORT ON THE ROAD
This weekend took the Bulldogs north as they battled UC Davis and Sacramento State for 4 much needed points in their push for regional contention. The weekend started with much excitement and anticipation and ended in shock and disappointment.
UC Davis
Fresno battled UC Davis in Vacaville on Friday night. The Aggies took advantage of an early power play and got on the board first. The Dogs would answer back with a nice goal from Freshman Phil Matson. The Dogs struggled to stay even strength and gave up two more shorthanded goals. A breakaway goal from Junior Jake Winans would bring the Dogs within one, but they were unable to tie it up during the 3rd as Davis scored an empty netter in the closing seconds to seal the 4-2 victory.
Sac. State
Saturday night against Sac. State found the Dogs facing an all too familiar challenge again, staying out of the penalty box. The Hornets scored two early goals before Captain Derek Miller would bury one to bring the score to 2-1. Both teams continued to battle back and forth, both with each other and the refs as the third period started 3-2. The Dogs however could not keep their composure and gave up four unanswered goals that lead to a final score of 7-2.
The Dogs rematch Sac. State this Saturday, January 19, at 4:30 at Gateway Ice Center.
