Dogs Lose Their Cool Against UC Davis
The Dogs lined up against another division foe in the Aggies of UC-Davis for the rights to take control of the PCHA Northern Division. The Dogs fought hard in front of their home crowd, but couldn’t manage to keep control of their emotions in the third period. UC-Davis took advantage of 19 Fresno State Penalties, 10 coming in the third period as they went on to win 4-2.
In the first period, Magnus Toftgard cycled the puck down low where Jacob Winans picked it up off the boards and looked to make a play in front of the net. Senior forward Derek Miller drew the Davis defenders attention leaving a semi truck size lane Winans coasted through to find the back of the net and put Fresno State up 1-0. Davis wouldn’t let the Dogs build on their early momentum as the Aggies quickly evened it up at 1-1 .
The game was tied heading into the second period when Senior Magnus Toftgard capitalized on a massive rebound from the Davis goaltender to put the Dogs up 2-1. However this was the last time that Fresno State would have the lead as the Aggies went on to score three unanswered goals on their way to the 4-2 win.
