Fresno State vs. Santa Clara (In San Jose)
2-4 LOSS

The Dogs took their last road trip of the season to San Jose for a division showdown against the Santa Clara Broncos. Fresno State played a great game in the first period as Freshman sensation Phillip Matson stole the show as he batted a puck out of mid air into the net to put the Dogs on the board 1-0 in the first. It appeared Fresno would be able to shut down the Broncos and walk away with a 1-0 win until the whistles started to blow. At one point during the contest the Dogs had more players in the penalty box than they had on the ice. This penalty filled fest was capped with the Broncos not only notching the game tying goal, but also putting the game at a reach the Dogs would be unable to recover from. It wasn’t until late in the third that San Jose native, Jacob Winans put a show on for his home crowd as he dipsy-doodled his way into making it a contest, firing a quick snap shot above the face off dot and ringing it off the post, putting the game within two goals. Unfortunately it was a little too late as the game ended 4-2.

Fresno State vs. Santa Clara (Save Mart Center)
5-6 LOSS

Fresno State made their way back home for the last game of the season in the Save Mart Center. The game had tempers running high as the Dogs felt they should have won the previous nights’ game, and wanted to finish the season on a good note. However this was not in the cards as the Dogs ended up losing 6-5. But it wasn’t without a valiant effort from Senior Mike Gandy. Mike Gandy not only did everything in his power to put the game out of reach for the Broncos, but also made his fan club proud posting a hat trick at home. The first goal of the contest was one of beauty, as Junior Jacob Winans burst up the right wing boards, put on the brakes and heard Senior Gandy calling for the puck in the slot. As Gandy received the puck in the slot he quickly ripped a top shelf stunner to put the Dogs on the board 1-0. Gandy’s second goal was one of determination as he powered his way to the front of the net to put in a loose rebound as the goalie was being screened. The hat-trick goal scored by Gandy was something that the fans in Fresno will be talking about for years to come. Senior Derek Miller, who was playing with a 108 degree temperature, skated up the left wing boards dodging players along his way. From the right corner Miller hit Gandy with a nice pass that he one timed past the Bronco's goaltender.
