BULLDOGS CLOSE OUT 2007 - 2008 SEASON
The Fresno State Bulldogs hockey team held its end of season awards banquet Friday night to look back on this past season and honor those players and supporters who went above and beyond over the course of the 2007-2008 season.
Senior Michael Gandy walked away on the night with the most hardware to take home. He was the winner of the 2007-2008 Coaches award. He also received a past due award from the 2002-2003 Adams cup winning team for most improved player. The final award Gandy took home was his game worn jersey which all graduating seniors receive for the dedication and commitment to the team.
Jordan Esswein received the award for this years most improved player. Esswein finished the season with 7 assists, but more importantly, he became a vital defenseman on both the power play and penalty kill units.
The George Harvey award for the most inspirational player was awarded to Freshman Phillip Matson. Matson tied for the team lead in scoring with 24 points in 16 games. Matson also lead the team with 12 goals.
The final award given out on the evening was for Most Valuable Player. Junior Chris McCormick received the award as the 2007-2008 M.V.P. He finished the season with 1 goal, 5 assists and 94 Penalty minutes, but it wasn’t his stat line that won the award. McCormick was on first team power play and penalty kill units and he was the energy rod of the team.
The Bulldog Hockey Team also announced the creation of the captain’s perpetual leadership award given out to the team Captain each year. Derek Miller was the captain of this year’s Bulldog team. In his final season, Miller tied for the team lead in points with 24 while scoring 9 goals with 14 assists.
The Fresno State Hockey Team would like to thank all of the players, parents, fans and sponsors for their participation in 2007-2008. We look forward to seeing you in September.
