Information on African Civilization Revisited— Study Tour of Egypt

Caribbean Culture and Schooling Experience, December 27, 2005 - January 5, 2006

Get an opportunity to examine the complex inter-relatedness of the indigenous people of the Americas as well as the peoples of Africa, Asia, Europe, and the Middle East through colonialism, slavery and indentured labor. A special focus would be on contemporary images and representations of the Amerindian, African, and Asian cultures in Trinidad and Tobago. Cultural and educational forums will be the basis for introducing students to the political, economic, and educational systems of Trinidad and Tobago as well as its diverse history within the Caribbean and the rest of the world.

Get a whole new perspective from experiencing the mystique of Egypt, the land of Nubia at the heart of the African continent and its 5,000-year legacy on other world civilizations. Through readings, site visits and lectures, participants in this study tour will examine the historical, metaphysical, scientific, artistic, and cultural aspects of this great civilization. Special emphasis will be put on the theme “Continuity and Change” as participants explore the historical and contemporary links of the Nile Valley civilization to the rest of Africa, the African diaspora, the Arab-Islamic world and the Western World.
