History
The
Provost's Awards were established in 1996 because outstanding teaching is central
to the mission of California State University, Fresno and deserves appropriate
recognition. Excellent teaching prepares a diverse student population
and develops superior scholarship. Recipients of the Provost's Awards
provide our students with a stimulating environment that fosters learning and
affirms the university as the intellectual and cultural leader of the San Joaquin
Valley. The purpose of the Provost's Awards is to honor those full-time
faculty members who set new standards of excellence at California State University,
Fresno.
Categories
Excellence in Teaching: Overall exceptional performance in the classroom that generates student enthusiasm and increases knowledge and awareness of the subject matter. (A stipend of $5,500 accompanies this award.)
Technology in Education: Effective and innovative use of technologies as tools in the teaching/learning process such as web related instruction, interactive audio video and new computer applications. (A stipend of $3,000 accompanies this award.)
Graduate Teaching and Mentoring: Excellence in graduate level teaching, with particular emphasis on the special mentoring that result in the exemplary professional development and scholarly achievement of graduate students. (A stipend of $3,000 accompanies this award.)
Faculty Service: Outstanding service to the university community and the community-at-large. Service activities might include exemplary contributions to ones discipline, faculty governance, service learning, community activities and other similar achievements. (A stipend of $3,000 accompanies this award.)
Distinguished Achievement in Research, Scholarship or Creative Activities: To recognize demonstrated achievement in research/scholarship/creative activities. This award was designed to honor recognized faculty achievements in any of the three areas of pursuit. (A stipend of $3,000 accompanies this award.)
Promising New Faculty Award: To recognize exemplary achievements in teaching, research/creative activities and/or service among all non-tenured, tenure track faculty. This award is designed to honor new faculty achievements in any of the three areas of pursuit. (A stipend of $3,000 accompanies this award.)
