About the Vice President
Dr. Peter Smits is vice president for University Advancement at California State University, Fresno. As a member of the president's cabinet, he is responsible for Fresno State's programs in alumni relations, development and fundraising, and university communications.
Prior to his appointment at Fresno State, Dr Smits was vice president for advancement at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. He also served as executive assistant to the chancellor at Louisiana State University in Shreveport, vice president for college relations and development at the State University of New York and Brockport, and dean of students at The College of White Plains in New York.
Dr. Smits earned his bachelor's and master's degrees at the State University of New York at Albany, and his Ph.D. from the University of Buffalo.
