ForumDr. Warren Kessler, President, CFA, Fresno:
E-mail Follow-up to October 9th Meeting at Fresno StateDr. Benjamin Quillian and Dr. Otto Benavedes re: FujitsuQuestion from Dr. Benavedes (10/30/97)When the CETI team made their presentation to the CSUFcampus, Roger Tucker asked a question which was dismissed at the time because it was deemed irrelevant to the CETI purposes. However, I would like to re-phrase his question in light of the problems we continue to have with the Fujitsu switch. Fujistu installed a telephone switch for the new Education Building. The switch has never worked properly. It has an inadequate back up system that crashes daily. The swicth renders this building inoperable via the telephone lines on regular basis. The phone system in this building went out last night around 6:00 PM and at this time we are without telephone service. The question on the Fujitsu issue is not whether the switch will work or will not appropriately. The question is if Fujitsu, one of the partners in CETI, has not been able to provide adequate support for equipment they produce and maintain for opne building, what can we expect in terms of reliablility for 22 campuses from a central CETI of which Fujitsu is a main partner? The question here is reliability and productivity. We depend on telephone communications to do business minute after minute of our day. This important issue has not been resolved in four long years.
Reply from Vice President Quillian (10/30/97)Otto, The question was not dismissed as irrelevant. In fact, I had previously forwarded to the CSU representatives a comprehensive memorandum which outlined problems we have had with Fujitsu. The CSU representatives are aware of the concerns. Additionally, I will raise the issue again at the next SIP meeting. I will also forward a copy of your memorandum to the CSU representatives. Thank you for your interest and taking time to write your concern. Ben Quillian |
