The Alcohol Safety Council (ASC) was established in recognition of the need for a campus and community-wide approach to preventing alcohol related problems. Promoting a campus culture of safe and responsible alcohol use, requires the shared leadership and collaboration of campus and community representatives.

The Alcohol Safety Council is comprised of community leaders, prevention specialists, law enforcement officers and administrators, as well as students, staff, and faculty from Fresno State. The Vice President of Student Affairs, Dr. Paul Oliaro, serves as Chair of the ASC.

ASC Mission

The Alcohol Safety Council strives to promote and sustain a safe, healthy, and responsible learning environment regarding alcohol choices by:    

            •     Developing and coordinating alcohol-related education, prevention and intervention programs, practices and policies and

            •     Advising and collaborating with the University administration,  campus and community on alcohol-related issues.      

ASC Subcommittees:

Much of the work of the Council occurs in its three subcommittees:

            •     Student Subcommittee - creates alcohol-free, fun, alternative events for students                       

            •     Faculty Subcommittee - designs events and activities to increase faculty and staff involvement in alcohol abuse awareness and prevention

            •     Education and Prevention Subcommittee – plans effective learning opportunities for students regarding all aspects of alcohol abuse prevention and safety
