ASC Activities

  • Organizes and sponsors student-oriented speakers focusing on prevention, safety, and moderation;
  • Creates new policy that regulated tailgating times and locations in order to reduce excessive partying and alcohol-related incidents;
  • Provides input and direction for the CSU Sober Driver Initiative, ABC, and the Alcohol and Traffic Safety grants, funded by the Office of Traffic Safety (OTS);
  • Creates and maintains effective partnerships with California Highway Patrol (CHP), Alcohol Beverage Control (ABC), University Police Department, Fresno Police Department (FPD), and other facets of the law enforcement;
  • Monitors and reviews results of the NCHA survey in order to recognize trends in student drinking behaviors and design and direct services accordingly;
  • Receives reports from ASC members attending statewide and national alcohol abuse prevention and social norms conferences;
  • Assists with the creation, promotion, and initiation of activities such as the Health Fair, Alcohol Screening Day, National Collegiate Alcohol Awareness Week, Milk and Cookies Night, and many others;
  • Reviews legislation at the state and national level that addresses alcohol use and enforcement;
  • Provides planning representatives and assistance with the CSU Alcohol Conference;
  • Provides opportunities for outside agencies (MADD, Youth Leadership Institute, etc.) to present orientations regarding their programs;
  • Formulates new committees like the Faculty Subcommittee and the new Outreach Subcommittee designed to strengthen campus and community support;
  • Contributes ideas and feedback for the Biennial Report submitted to the Board of Trustees and the Chancellor's Office;
  • Reviews social norms, BAC, alcohol poisoning prototype posters, flyers, and handouts and provides feedback to Wellness Services;
  • Creates the goals of the ASC membership;
  • Promotes a campus culture of safe, responsible alcohol use;
  • Provides online referrals to campus and community resources.
