Did
you know?
The Fresno State Alumni Association [FSAA] allocates 10% of annual
membership fees to a Student Scholarship Endowment Fund! In 2003-04, the
FSAA awarded 70 scholarships totaling $78,000 to students based on
academic achievement and financial need. The
FSAA leads all of the alumni
associations on the 23 campuses of the CSU system with student scholarship
giving!
Brooke
Tinnin is
a third generation Fresno State Bulldog! Her parents, Lee and Debby Tinnin,
and her grandmother, Florine Tinnin, all graduated from Fresno State. A
junior majoring in liberal studies, Brooke has been accepted into the
Early Childhood Education Credential Program. “My
FSAA
scholarship helps me pay for books and tuition” she said. “Thank you for
helping me complete my education.” She is also a member of Alpha Delta
Chi.
Christopher
Rusca
comes from a Fresno State Bulldog family! Chris’ father, Rodney Rusca,
Sr.; and sister, Tracy, graduated from Fresno State. His brother, Rodney
Rusca, Jr., is also a senior attending Fresno State. Chris, a junior
majoring in accounting, is a Craig Scholar, a member of Sigma Chi and was
elected as a senator-at-large with the Associated Students. “The
FSAA
is helping pay for my books this semester,” he said. “Thank you for
selecting me for this scholarship.”

THE TEAMS BEHIND THE
TEAMS:
The History of the Bulldog Foundation
Author and Fresno State alumnus Bruce Farris
has spent 50 years covering Fresno State athletic events for “The Fresno
Bee.” This inside look of the Bulldog Foundation is 368 pages, which
includes 20 pages of historical photographs. Farris is also an
FSAA life
member. Copies are priced at $20 each and available by calling the BDF at

IN MEMORIAM:
President Emeritus Harold H. Haak [1935-2003]
Dr. Harold H. Haak, who served as the university’s sixth president for 11
years until his retirement in 1991, died on Friday, December 26. Haak
[pictured, left] also
served as president of Fresno Pacific University from 2000 to 2002. He
began his Fresno State career when he served as academic vice president
from 1971 to 1973. He served as Chancellor of the University of Colorado
at Denver from 1973 to 1980 before returning to Fresno State in 1980.

Jesse Aleman
[1991,
1994] has written the introduction to "The Woman In Battle: The Civil War
Narrative of Loreta Velasquz, Cuban Woman and Confederate Soldier," which
has been published by The University of Wisconsin Press. The book details
Velazquez, a woman that fought for the Confederacy as the cross-dressing
Harry T. Buford.
Dennis Hart [1977] has
joined the KMPH 107.5 FM radio news team. He also the author of "Monitor:
The Last Great Radio Show," about NBC's nationally syndicated radio show,
"Monitor."
Evelyn Husband has
written the just-released book, “HIGH CALLING: The Courageous Life and Faith of Space Shuttle
Commander
Rick Husband," [1992],
her husband who was also the recipient of the
FSAA’s
2002 Outstanding Alumnus Award for the College of Engineering and Computer
Science.
Catherine Rehart
[1963]
has released Volume V of "The Valley's Legends & Legacies," the fifth
installment of history and charming vignettes of California's San Joaquin Valley."
Danny Salas is a disc jockey for B95 Radio in Fresno. As a student, he
worked for Fresno State's on-campus student-run radio station, KFSR.
Paul Ussery [1998] and
Amy DeCarli are happy to announce their engagement. The wedding ceremony
will take place in April of 2004.
