Did
you know?
The Fresno State Alumni Association [FSAA] allocates 10% of annual
membership fees to a Student Scholarship Endowment Fund! In 2003-04, the
FSAA awarded 70 scholarships totaling $78,000 to students based on
academic achievement and financial need. The
FSAA leads all of the alumni
associations on the 23 campuses of the CSU system with student scholarship
giving!
A
freshman working towards a BA in business administration within the Craig
School of Business, Angela Alejandro has been named a Craig
Scholar. She graduated summa cum laude from San Joaquin Memorial High in
Fresno. “The
FSAA
scholarship allows me to focus on my studies,” she says. “I can study more
and work less.” Angela has declared an emphasis in accounting.
Frank
S. Puccio
is a senior majoring in business and marketing, with a minor in broadcast
journalism. He’s also President of Sigma Chi, a member of the University
Student Union Board of Directors and a member of the Omega Honors Society.
“FSAA’s
support is assisting me with housing this year,” he says. “I’m thankful
for the assistance.” Frank plans to attend graduate school next fall.

Laura Berg [1998], a two-time Olympic gold medalist
[Atlanta, 1996; Sydney, 2000] makes her third trip to the Olympics. Berg,
a four-time All-American, is also a three-time Pan American Games gold
medalist and a three-time ISF World Champion. She was named Outstanding
Alumna for Athletics by the
Fresno State Alumni Association
at the Top Dog Alumni Awards Gala in 2003. Currently, Berg is based at the
U.S. Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, CA.

Abas
August 22-29; Ano Liossia Olympic Hall; Athens.
Former
Fresno
State
grappler Stephen Abas [2004], a three-time NCAA Champion [1999, 2001,
2002], a four-time All-American [1998, 1999, 2001, 2002] and a Pan-American gold medalist
[2003] makes his first trip to the Olympics. He is also a World Cup
Champion [2002] and winner of the Titan Games [2003].
Abas
was named Fresno State's Male Athlete of the Year in both 1999 and 2001. He is currently based at the U.S. Olympic
Training Center in Colorado Springs, CO.

Provost: Jeri Echeverria
President John D. Welty has named interim Provost Jeronima [Jeri]
Echeverria as the new Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. Dr.
Echeverria, who served as interim provost since July 2003, was selected
from a field of more than 50 candidates from throughout the country.

Capsules at the Save Mart Center
The history of Fresno State was placed in a time capsule with a
3,200-pound Bulldog guarding the special information for the next 50
years.

The viticulture and enology program has unveiled newly designed wine
labels for several varietals that will help establish brand identity for
award-winning wines produced by students at the Fresno State Winery. The
new distinctive labels create three new series of wines: the Reserve

has spent 50 years covering Fresno State athletic events for “The Fresno

released his autobiography, "Noesis." As a young African American man,
Tucker was driven to success by a loving Caucasian family that helped to
guide him to academic, athletic, and spiritual achievement.

[1998] recently accepted a position at Jeffrey/Scott Advertising located
in Fresno as Traffic Assistant. Cook is also currently at graduate student
at Fresno State.

[1969], Winemaker of Emilio Guglielmo Winery has received the 2nd annual
Leadership Excellence Award from Leadership Morgan Hill, CA.

[1955], the former Men's Bulldog Basketball Coach, has been honored with
the naming of the Men's Basketball Wing at the Save Mart Center at Fresno
State. He and his wife, Lois, both
Fresno State Alumni Association members,
donated $100,000 to the Henry Madden Library in 1998.

[Freitas] Bianchi [1991] the Agriculture Instructor of San Benito High
School in
Hollister, CA, is also the advisor for the school's FFA program.

[2004] was recently promoted to Traffic Manager at Jeffrey/Scott

[1958] is the 2004 President of the Bulldog Foundation. Lockhart,

[1985] will be honored posthumously with the naming of a new
softball field at Lemoore High School in Lemoore, CA on March 11.

[1990] has artwork featured on the front cover program of the Rogue Performance Festival in Fresno.
Timothy
P. White
[1970] has accepted the position at University of Idaho located in Moscow,
ID as its 16th President. Dr. White received his baccalaureate degree from
Fresno State.
Trent
Dilfer
was honored with the first ever Golden Heart Award by Junior Achievement
on March 3rd at a dinner and gala in Newport Beach, CA. Dilfer is the
quarterback [#4] for the Seattle Seahawks.
Valerie
A. Vuicich
[1979] of the State Center Consortium/Fresno County Office of Education
received the Harold Haak Business Partnership Educator of the Year Award
from the Fresno Compact. Vuicich serves on the
FSAA Board
of Directors as Vice President of Membership and Marketing.
Victor
Hernandez
[1998] was recently promoted to Senior Assignment Editor of the National
Desk at CNN located in Atlanta, GA.
