Did
you know?
The Fresno State Alumni Association [FSAA] allocates 10% of annual
membership fees to a Student Scholarship Endowment Fund! In 2004-05, the
FSAA will
award scholarships totaling $80,000 to students based on
academic achievement and financial need. The
FSAA leads all of the alumni
associations on the 23 campuses of the CSU system with student scholarship
giving!
A
freshman working towards a BA in business administration within the Craig
School of Business, Angela Alejandro has been named a Craig
Scholar. She graduated summa cum laude from San Joaquin Memorial High in
Fresno. “The
FSAA
scholarship allows me to focus on my studies,” she says. “I can study more
and work less.” Angela has declared an emphasis in accounting.
Frank
S. Puccio
is a senior majoring in business and marketing, with a minor in broadcast
journalism. He’s also President of Sigma Chi, a member of the University
Student Union Board of Directors and a member of the Omega Honors Society.
“FSAA’s
support is assisting me with housing this year,” he says. “I’m thankful
for the assistance.” Frank plans to attend graduate school next fall.

Tate and Matthew Gomes. Beginning next month and throughout the year, both will provide photographs
and updates to “the life of a student at Fresno State.”

Kendra Tate is a native of Oakland, but has lived in Wasco for the
past three years and graduated from Wasco High School. She chose Fresno
State for its campus environment.

music composition. He is a Clovis West High School graduate. His father,

MBA Program, Cohort III
The Craig School of Business at Fresno State’s Executive MBA program is
recruiting students for Cohort III to begin in April of 2005. To date, 50
students are currently enrolled in Corhorts I and II with Cohort I

Chief of Police at Fresno State
David Huerta [1992] was recently named Chief of Police at Fresno State.
He's a 31-year veteran of law enforcement entirely with the Fresno County
Sheriff's Department. He is a
FSAA member.

State Wines Win Double Gold Medal
The 2001 Muscat Canelli won a rare Double Gold for the 2001 Muscat Canelli
at the California State Fair Competition. Produced by Fresno State enology
students with grapes from the John Diener Vineyard in western Fresno
County, the 2001 Muscat Canelli also won Best of California and Best of
Class Other California Appellations honors.

State Professor Selected Mexico State Legislature
Dr. Jesus Martinez-Saldana, Chicano Studies, has been named a candidate in
the Michoacan Mexico state legislature. He is guaranteed a seat in the

Carrie Galle of Reedley was on her way home from Anaheim and spotted Fresno
State Football Coach Pat Hill at a restaurant in Bakersfield. Her eight-year old son, Jimi,
had his Bulldog cap signed “Play hard” by Coach Hill. She wrote in a
letter to “The Fresno Bee” on August 5, 2004, that her son later said:
“Meeting Coach Pat Hill was better than Disneyland!”
New
Equestrian Coach
Becky Malmo has been name the new Equestrian Coach at Fresno State. She is
currently enrolled in the Joint Doctoral Program in Educational Leadership
at Fresno State.

Fresno State alumna Amanda Scott was named Most Valuable Player when the
New York/New Jersey Juggernauts won the inaugural Cowles Cup at the 2004
National Pro Fastpitch Championships.

Bill
Jones [1971] addressed the
Republican National Convention held in New York City's Madison Square
Garden in August. The former California Secretary of State was named
Distinguished Alumnus at the Fresno State Alumni Associations Top Dog
Awards in 1999. He and his wife,
Maurine, are
FSAA Life Members.
Charles
"Chuck" Poochigian [1972],
State Senator [R-14th District], was honored with The Minnie Award for
Integrity by "The California Journal." He has also been named
Distinguished Alumnus by the Fresno State Alumni Association, which will be
presented at the
Top Dog Awards Gala on October 28, 2004 at the Save Mart
Center. He and his wife,
Debbie, are
FSAA Life Members.
John
Hernandez [1996] has been
elected Central Region Director of the California Hispanic Chambers of
Commerce Board of Directors. This organization governs all 62 Hispanic
Chambers of Commerce in the State of California. He is a member of the
FSAA.
Laura
Berg [1998] earned a Gold
Medal in Softball at the Games of the XXXVIII Olympiad in Athens. Berg, a
FSAA member, was named Outstanding
Alumna for Athletics by the Fresno State Alumni Association at the
Top Dog Alumni Awards Gala in 2003.
Leo
Wilson was recently honored
with a Lifetime Achievement Award by the Bulldog Foundation. He also built
the Smittcamp Alumni House at Fresno State.
Mark
A. Scott [1980] has been
elected Judge for the DeKalb County Superior Court, Division 9, of Stone
Mountain, GA. His wife,
Joan Q. Scott [1981], is also
a Fresno State graduate.
Nat
Di Buduo [1972] was featured
on the cover of "American Vineyard" for the August 2004 issue. DiBuduo
is President of the Allied Grape Growers and an
FSAA Life Member. His daughter,
Nicole Linder, is also a
Fresno State alumna.
Neil
Gibson spent the summer as an
Intern for the Office of the Governor, Arnold Schwarzenegger [R-Calif.],
in Sacramento. Gibson is former President of Associated Students' at
Fresno State and a current
FSAA student member.
Rodger
Jensen [1941] is featured in
"The Last Mission" published by Broadway Books, about the final days of
World War II. Jensen and his wife,
Margaret,
FSAA Life Members, were also the
donors of the Jensen Library at the Smittcamp Alumni House.
Ronald
A. Avedisian [1978, 1983] has
been elected Second Vice President of the American Institute of
Parlimentarians. A member of AIP since 1990, he holds the designations of
Certified Professional Parlimentarian and Certified Teacher of
Parliamentary Procedures. He is also a
FSAA Life Member.
The
Sons of the San Joaquin were named as the Academy of Western Artists’
“Entertainer of the Year” at the Will Roger Awards held in Fort Worth, TX.
