Three inaugural tiles will be dedicated in the memory of these patriotic Bulldogs: Todd Beamer - Fresno State alumnus, who said “Let’s Roll!” aboard Flight 93 on September 11, 2001; Lt. Cmdr. Otis Vincent Tolbert [1985] - who was stationed at The Pentagon on September 11, 2001; and Col. Rick Husband [1990] - [pictured] who was Commander, NASA’s Space Shuttle Columbia, which disintegrated with her crew upon re-entering the Earth’s atmosphere on February 1, 2003. Did you know?
The Fresno State Alumni Association [FSAA] allocates 10% of annual membership fees to a Student Scholarship Endowment Fund! In 2004-05, the FSAA is awarding scholarships totaling $80,000 to students based on academic achievement and financial need. The FSAA leads all of the alumni associations on the 23 campuses of the CSU system with student scholarship giving!

A graduate student, Argelia Lara is completing her MS degree in counseling. She is attending Fesno State with her younger sister, Carmen, and they are from Wasco, CA. Argelia is a member of Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society, received a Graduate Equity Fellowship and was named an Outstanding Graduate Student last year. “The FSSA scholarship and support will assist me in succeeding,” she says. “Thank you so much.” Argelia will pursue a doctoral program in educational policy.

Jeffery A. Campbell [June 11, 1961 - June 29, 2004] recently passed away. A member of Phi Theta Kappa and National Honor Societies, he maintained a 4.0 GPA while at Fresno State. Jeff had also been named to the Dean’s List, was studying business administration with an international option and was a FSAA student member.

Fresno State’s Class of 2008 section features two freshmen, Kendra Tate and Matthew Gomes. Next month and throughout the year, both will provide updates with photographs on “the life of a student at Fresno State.”

Freshmen Kendra Tate is a native of Oakland, but has lived in Wasco for the past three years and graduated from Wasco High School. She chose Fresno State for its campus environment.

Freshmen Mathew Gomes is a Smittcamp Honors Program student majoring in music composition. He is a Clovis West High School graduate. His father, John Gomes, is a Fresno State graduate.

Fresno State’s Viticulture and Enology Program has gained prominent attention has a feature story in the September issue of “Sunset” magazine. FFA Honors Carl Pherson

“Fresno” honors Stacy Johnson-Klien
The Best of Fresno edition of “Fresno” magazine recently honored Stacy-Johnson Klien as “Best Sports Personality.” She is the Head Coach of the Women’s Basketball Team.

Bryan Juinio [1997] has won his fourth straight Fresno City Championship in the Men's Tennis Singles Match.

Creative Fresno, a new arts organization founded by the Great Valley Center, has seven Fresno State alumni on its Steering Committee: A. Reza Assemi [1998], John Boyle [1998], Cary Catalano [1999], Bret Engelman [1996, 1999], Matthew Ikonian [1999], Adam Longatti [2002] and Henry T. Perea [2001]. Catalano, Engelman and Perea are FSAA members. The group is unveiling a new mural on Pearl Alley on Thursday, October 7.

Curt Kuball was recently featured in "The Fresno Bee" for assisting the West Fresno School District in improving its Academic Performance Index scores. He is a teacher at West Fresno Elementary School.

Kathy Fagan, an English Professor at The Ohio State University, is the recipient of the 2004 James P. Barry Ohioana Award for Editorial Excellence by the Ohioana Library Association. 

Kevin Bradshaw [1993], Vice President of Finance and Controller for Gottschalks, assisted in ringing the closing bell at the NYSE on September 17, 2004 to celebrate the Company's 100th year of service. A Summa Cum Laude graduate from Fresno State's Craig School of Business, Kevin is pictured with his wife, Patricia. 

Melissa Wolfmann [1992] recently sang selections from "Un Ballo in Maschera" [The Masked Ball] in a benefit performance for the Townsend Opera Players in Modesto. She’s an FSAA Member.

Nathan Magsig [1999] is the Mayor Pro Tem for the City of Clovis, CA. 

Roy Christopher [1957, 1961] has won his 8th Emmy Award at the 56th Emmy Annual Primetime Emmy Award from the Academy of Television. Christopher's win was for Outstanding Art Direction for a Multi-Camera Series for his work on "Frazier." He’s a FSAA Life Member.

Ryan Garcia [2004] won the National Bicycle League’s Grand National Championship in the men’s 22-29 expert class division.

Sylvia Savala is exhibiting “Drawing the Line” at Whole Foods in Fresno through October 30^th. ArtHop reception is Thursday, October 7. She is an FSAA member.

Sierra Pacific Orthopaedic Center in Fresno has seven Fresno State alumni on the staff: David E. Taylor [1967], Dawnlynn Suglian [1984], Greg Granato [1995], Greg Mellor [1993], Jeryl Wiens, R. Joe Clark [1989] and Rod. S. Kraft [1977].
