A
graduate student, Argelia Lara is completing her MS degree in
counseling. She is attending Fresno State with her younger sister, Carmen,
and they are from Wasco, CA. Argelia is a member of Phi Kappa Phi Honor
Society, received a Graduate Equity Fellowship and was named an
Outstanding Graduate Student last year. “The FSSA scholarship and support
will assist me in succeeding,” she says. “Thank you so much.” Argelia will
pursue a doctoral program in educational policy.

Campbell [June 11, 1961 - June 29, 2004]. A
member of Phi Theta Kappa and National Honor Societies, he maintained a 4.0 GPA while at Fresno State. Jeff had

Osher Lifelong Learning Institute
A $100,000 grant form the Bernard Osher Foundation in San Francisco is
funding the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at
Fresno
State. Fresno State joins 59 other Osher Institutes throughout the
country. Dr. Shirley Bruegman
[1979, 1981] has been named director of the institute.

The Central Valley Political Archive of the Henry Madden Library has
acquired the papers of former Fresno Mayor Dan Whitehurst, who served from
1977 to 1985. Whitehurst was also the second Kenneth L. Maddy Professor at
the Maddy Institute of Public Affairs
at Fresno State.

Timothy M. Stearns, Coleman Foundation Chair in Entrepreneurial Studies
and Director of the Lyles Center for
Innovation and Entrepreneurship has been elected chair of the
Entrepreneurship Division Academy of Management. The Academy has a
membership of more than 16,000 worldwide.

Mark Keppler, Executive Director of the Maddy Institute of Public Affairs
at Fresno State, was featured in the article "A Man of Ideas, a Man of
Action" in the Late Summer 2005 edition of "Imagine," a publication of

Welcome 6,000 Cats
The Arne Nixon Center for the
Study of Children's Literature at Fresno State has accepted a donation
of one of the world's largest collection of books on cats, some 6,000
volumes published from 1727 to 2001. The donation, valued at $187,000 and
is from the estate of Helen Monnette Amestoy.
