Brooke Tinnin is a third generation Fresno State Bulldog! Her parents, Lee and Debby Tinnin, and her grandmother, Florine Tinnin, all graduated from Fresno State. A junior majoring in liberal studies, Brooke has been accepted into the Early Childhood Education Credential Program. “My FSAA scholarship helps me pay for books and tuition” she said. “Thank you for helping me complete my education.” She is also a member of Alpha Delta Chi.

Christopher Rusca comes from a Fresno State Bulldog family! Chris’ father, Rodney Rusca, Sr.; and sister, Tracy, graduated from Fresno State. His brother, Rodney Rusca, Jr., is also a senior attending Fresno State. Chris, a junior majoring in accounting, is a Craig Scholar, a member of Sigma Chi and was elected as a senator-at-large with the Associated Students. “The FSAA is helping pay for my books this semester,” he said. “Thank you for selecting me for this scholarship.”

President Welty Chairs AASCU
John D. Welty has been selected the Chair of the American Association of State Colleges and Universities, an organization representing more than 400 public colleges and universities with enrollment of more than three million students.

ReadFresno:
Service Learning
Student teams from the Craig School of Business delivered more than 30,000 books and $2,500 in donations to ReadFresno. Students used a variety of marketing strategies to gather new and used books for the class project.

Chancellor Reed Visits Campus
CSU Chancellor Charles B. Reed recently visited Fresno State’s campus to honor students in the Chancellor’s Fellowship Program. During his visit, he taped a session of “Valley Press,” a local PBS program hosted by Jim Tucker of the MCJ Department.

E-waste Pilot Program
Fresno State has partnered with Electronic Recyclers of America to become a licensed drop-off point for the disposing of used computers, cell phones and office equipment. The program is slated to begin in January of 2006. Fresno State’s president.] Last month, Shegarian traveled with the official 75-person delegation of Gov. Arnold Arnold Schwarzenegger [R-Calif.] six-day trade mission to China.

The November 19^th Fresno State vs. USC football game is the most-watched nationally televised event in the history of the Fox Sports Network. Donald Cameron [1974] General Manager of Terranova Ranch, Inc. was featured in "The Fresno Bee" and on the radio program "Beyond Organic Show" for growing 80 acres of organic pima cotton which is supplied to Patagonia. The cotton is certified "organic" by the California Certified Organic Farmers [CCOF]. 

John Corkins [1980] was named 2005 Man of the Year by the Porterville Chamber of Commerce. 

Veronica Cruz was featured in "The Fresno Bee" as an instructor with "A Face Like Mine: Recruiting Minority Teachers," a federally funded U.S. Department of Education program that has been granted to the Tulare County Office of Education.

Arpie [Torigian] Dick [1954] was featured in "The Fresno Bee" article "'Dogs' best friends," about Fresno State sports fans that are crazy about their teams. She is a FSAA Life member. 

Ruth Evans [1976] serves as Chairman of the Greater Fresno Area Chamber of Commerce. 

A.J. Gass [1997] is a linebacker for the Edmonton Eskimos, which recently won the Canadian Football League's 93rd Grey Cup Championship.

Gigi [Geary] Gibbs [1981] was featured in "The Fresno Bee" for attending the Bulldogs vs. USC Football game in Los Angeles and the Rolling Stones concert at the Save Mart Center in Fresno on the same weekend. She is a FSAA member.  

Kenny Guinn [1959, 1965] was named one of "America's Five Best Governors" in the November 13, 2005 issue of "TIME" magazine. The Nevada Governor, Guinn was elected to the office in 1998. Guinn was was named Distinguished Alumnus by the FSAA in 2001.

Bob Heinrich [1982] is the CEO of No-Burn California, a company that sells spray-on products that protect wood, drywall, fabric and furniture from fire.

Scott Johnson [2000] has been named Economic Development Directory [Interim] for the City of Fresno. He is a FSAA member. 

Pat LaRocca [1983] and his wife, Marina [Mattucci] LaRocca [1992], own and operate Five, a new Tuscan-Californian fusion restaurant in Fresno.

Leslie Laing [1954] has been inducted into the Central American and Caribbean Confederation Hall of Fame in Kingston, Jamaica. A native of Jamaica, Laing represented his country at its first two Olympic Games-- 1948 and 1952-- making history and winning a Gold Medal in 1952  in the 4X400m that broke a world record.

Ryan LaSalle [1996] won best screenplay in the "family" genre and first runner-up overall for "The Fall of Dreams" at Expo 5, "Creative Screenwriting" magazine's annual competition in Los Angeles.

James "Jim" Lowe [1981] is the Director of Strategic Marketing for Jeffrey Scott Advertising in Fresno. He is a FSAA member.

Charles Franklyn "Frank" Markarian [1962] was recently bestowed the U.S. Navy's highest award for civilian service. He is a FSAA member. 

Ronald H. Markarian [1953] is an Ambassador with the U.S. Army's Reserve's Ambassador Program and the California State Director of the U.S. Selective Service System. He is a FSAA member.

Peter "Pete" Mehas [1962] is the recipient of the 2005 California Community College Distinguished Alumni Award. A FSAA Life member, he was named Distinguished Alumnus by the FSAA in 2002.

Nancy [Field] Osborne [1974], News Anchor at KFSN Channel 30 [ABC] in Fresno, has been named to the prestigious Silver Circle by the Northern California Division of the National Academy of Arts and Sciences. She was honored with an Outstanding Alumna Award by the Fresno State Alumni Association in 1998.

Michael Parola [1976] of Parola Design has been published in the 2005 edition of American Corporate Identity. This marks the seventh year Parola Design's graphic work has been published in this annual. 

Grace [George] Paul [1943] and her husband, John, were named 2005 Outstanding Philanthropists by the Association of Fundraising Professionals, California Valley Chapter. She is a FSAA Life member.

Inman Perkins was featured in "The Fresno Bee" as "a longtime unofficial Bulldog cheerleader who gets the fans going." He was a yell leader as a student at Fresno State.

Ultiminio "Tim" Rios [1993] has been promoted to Senior Vice President at Wells Fargo. He also serves as the national spokesman for its Latino business services program. 

Randall Strahan [1974] was recently featured in "The Fresno Bee" for being named the 2005 Entrepreneur in Residence for the Lyles Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship at Fresno State.

David St. John [1972] is the author of nine collections of poetry, most recently "The Face: A Novella in Verse."

James "Jim" Tjerrild [1993] and his sister, Diane of Potential Design, are re-manufacturing the well-known chocolate wafer candy of yesteryear: Flicks— the recognizable wafers filled in red, green, blue and yellow covered cardboard tubes.

Robert A. Truxell [1976] and John A. Valentino of Truxell & Valentino Landscape Development, Inc. in Clovis had a landscaping project for the late-John Cummings of Fresno featured in the August 2005 issue of "Sunset" magazine.

Brian Turner [1994], a U.S. Army Iraq war veteran, has had his collection of poems, "Here, Bullet," published by Alice James Books.

Nicolas "Nick" Watney [2003] won the Callaway Golf Pebble Beach Invitational, taking the lead with a six-foot birdie putt on the 15th hole and finishing with a 4-under 68 for a one-stroke victory over Peter Tomasulo.

Robert Westenberg [1977] is an Assistant Professor at Drury University in Springfield, MO. He originated the roles of Wolf and Prince in "Into the Woods" and received a Tony Award nomination and a Drama Desk Award.
