Fresno State student Ashley Faith Herren.Stephanie Francis has been crowned Miss Fresno County for 2006. Last year, Francis was second runner-up in the Miss Clovis pageant. Another Fresno State student, Ashley Faith Herren, was awarded first runner-up. The pageant is an official preliminary for Miss California.

J.L. "Jack" Krieger.California Railroads Book Collection
A 700-book collection tracing the history of California railroads has been donated to the Henry Madden Library by the family of the late railroad fan,
J.L. "Jack" Krieger [1959, 1964]. With publications dating from 1896 and valued up to $50,000; the collection was donated by his wife, Elaine Krieger, a Fresno State alumna, and their children, Karen and John.

Fresno State’s first contingent of faculty and staff volunteers are preparing for its assignment with ReadFresno. Volunteers visit schools once or twice a week to read to children to assist with improving reading skills.

Fresno State’s first extra virgin olive oil has been released and is now on sale at the Farm Market. This is the latest student-produced product from the campus’ Agricultural Laboratory, the 1,053-acre farm on the northeast side of the campus. Glenn Carlson [1972], a Fresno State alumnus and founder of the bowling program 36 years ago, has recognized by the U.S. Bowling Congress with the Kerm Helmer Horizon Award. He is an FSAA member.

Michael Cart, a longtime friend and supporter of the Arne Nixon Center for the Study of Children’s Literature at the
Henry Madden Library, has recently donated 140 books valued at more than $35,000. Included in the donation are Robert Lawson’s “Four and Twenty Blackbirds” and “Pene Du Bois’ “Elisabeth the Ghost Cow.”

Mohamed Almulla.Mohamed Almulla [1987] has been appointed CEO for HSBC Bank Middle West Limited in Abu Dhabi, the largest and most widely represented international bank in the Middle East.

Bradley Bell. [Photo by THE COLLEGIAN].Bradley Bell [1995], a former Fresno State football standout, is the Pastor at The Well Community Church in Fresno. He was recently featured in "The Collegian," Fresno State's student-run newspaper.

Doug Broten.Doug Broten [1971], the President and CEO of the Better Business Bureau of the San Joaquin Valley, was recently featured in The Profile of "The Business Journal."  

Kurt Chambers.Kurt Chambers [2005] recently participated in the 47th annual Goodguys March Meet at the Auto Club's Famoso Raceway in Bakersfield, Calif. He's the owner and driver of a 1965 Chevrolet Nova "hot rod" class race car and races at speeds of more than 130 miles per hour. He’s an FSAA member.

Gino Favagrossa.Gino Favagrossa [1994] is the Orchard Manager for Fresno State. He assisted with the development, bottling and release of Estate Reserve Oil, the campus' “olive-for-oil” project, which is available at the Farm Market

Ellen Gorelick.Ellen Gorelick [1979] has been named 2006 Woman of the Year by Assemblymember Bill Maze [R-Visalia]. A former art educator, she is the Executive Director of The Tulare Historical Museum. 

BlackStock Vineyards.David A. Harris, Jr. [1985] owns and operates BlackStock Vineyards in the Dahlonega area of Georgia.

Mark Herder.Mark Herder [1973] has retired as Police Chief for the City of Stockton, after a 32-year career in law enforcement. He is an FSAA member.

Lawson Fusao Inada.Lawson Fusao Inada [1964] has been named the Poet Laureate for the State of Oregon by Governor Ted Kulongoski. The Fresno native is a Professor Emeritus of Literature from Southern Oregon University.

William Koch.William M. Koch [1999] has passed of state examination to become a licensed surveyor. He's an engineer with Siegfried Engineering, Inc. in Stockton. 

John Loiacono.John Loiacono [1985] has been hired as the Senior Vice President of the Creative Group at Adobe, located in San Jose, Calif.

Elizabeth and Justin Gorubec.Elizabeth Masini [2004] and Justin Gorubec [2005] have celebrated their first wedding anniversary on March 19, 2006.

Graham Moes.Graham Moes [2001] has won the second runner-up prize at the inaugural Kairos Prize for Spiritually Uplifting Screenplay, a part of the Movieguide Faith & Values Awards. A part-time writer for "The Clovis Independent," he received $10,000 with this award.

"Paisano's Passion" by Michael Muscio.Michael Muscio [2005] has authored "Paisano's Passion," a 73-page novella about a young man who finds life's passions through his travels in Mexico. He's also donated a copy to the Smittcamp Alumni House. | [Online]

Bryce Ruiz.F. Bryce Ruiz [1999] has been appointed President and Chief Operating Officer of Ruiz Foods, the nation's largest maker of frozen Mexican food.

Ray Steele, Jr.Ray Steele, Jr. [1968], Publisher of "The Fresno Bee," has been inducted into the Central California Advertising and Marketing Hall of Fame. An FSAA member, he was named Outstanding Alumnus for the College of Arts and Humanities at the FSAA's Top Dog Alumni Awards Gala last year.

Andy Souza.Andrew T. Souza [1981] is the City Manager for the City of Fresno.
