The spring 2006 issue of FresnoState, the university's magazine, is being distributed. This issue focuses on the arts, humanities and entertainment areas of Fresno State. It also includes nine pages of FSAA information including 276 Class Notes!

Juan Pablo Moncayo Elected AS President
International student Juan Pablo Moncayo has been elected President of the Associated Students. A native of Ecuador, he's a senior majoring in finance and physics.

Jane Addams Statue Unveiled
The newest addition to the Peace Garden, a life-sized statue of peace advocate and Nobel Peace Prize winner, Jane Addams, has been unveiled. The statue is the creation of graduate art student, Claudia Nolan. The statue is situated near statues of Mahtama Gandhi [1990], Cesar Chavez [1996] and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. [1999]. The Peace Garden at Fresno State is adjacent to the Henry Madden Library.

“The Collegian” recently profiled AS Senator-at-Large, Megan Jacobsen. She's a member of the FSAA and actively involved in the RedZone, as well as a full-time student.

New Lyles Center Opens
The new home of the Lyles Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship has opened, adjacent to the Save Mart Center. It is named for William M. Lyles of Lyles Diversified, Inc.

NFL Draft Update
Richard Marshall [pictured] went to the Carolina Panthers, Adam Jennings to the Atlanta Falcons; and Tyrone Culver to the Green Bay Packers. Free-agent contracts were signed by Paul Pinegar [Jacksonville Jaguars], Wendell Mathis [Minnesota Vikings], Bryson Sumlin [San Diego Chargers], Jermaine Jamison [Kansas City] and Garrett McIntyre [Seattle Seahawks].

Brian Turner [1994]  has been named winner of the Northern California Book Award for his collection of poems, "Here, Bullet." It was the fourth award for the book.

Todd Morgan Beamer, a Fresno State alumnus, is featured in the new Universal Pictures’ film, “Flight 93,” which depicts the events of September 11, 2001. He is portrayed by actor David Alan Basche in the film that opened April 28^th. Aboard Flight 93 on September 11^th, he immortalized— “Let’s roll!"  Todd Beamer is memorialized on Bulldog Walkway at Fresno State, located at the Save Mart Center, with another September 11^th victim and Fresno State graduate, Otis Vincent Tolbert, Jr. who perished at the Pentagon.

Joseph "Joe" Barron [1994] has been selected as one of 12 teachers nationwide for a four-day teacher fellowship at the Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum. He teaches modern world history, US history, American government and economics at Fresno High School.

Laura Berg [1998] has been named to the NCAA's 11-member 25th Anniversary Division I Softball Team. She is a three-time US Olympic Gold Medalist and she was honored by the FSAA at the Top Dog Alumni Awards Gala in 2003. She has also been honored by the FSAA at Bulldog Walkway, located at the Save Mart Center. 

Gary Clifford [1976] was highlighted in the article, "Buggy for Beetles," published by "The Fresno Bee." He has owned a 1954 VW for 25 years, which now has more than 400,000 miles on it.

William "Bill" Coate [1984] has once again led a cross-country wagon train carrying Fresno County students. This year's trek was in conjunction with the celebration of Fresno County's Sesquicentennial-- 150th anniversary. 

James "Jim" Costa [1974] has been given the Spirit of Enterprise Award by the Greater Area Fresno Area Chamber of Commerce for his pro-business voting record representing US Congressional District 20. An FSAA Life member, he was honored by the FSAA at the Top Dog Alumni Awards Gala in 2002

Tracy Hostmyer [1988] [pictured with Peter Levine] was featured in "The New York Times" for her role of the Jewish Wife in Bertolt Brecht's "The Private Life of the Master Race" in performances Off-Broadway.

Jasdip Kahlon and Jasleen Kang were married on March 25, 2006. They are both Fresno State alumni.

Kristin Leon [2005] and Eddy Gifford [2005] were married on June 25, 2005 in Fallbrook, Calif. 

Richard A. Murray [1964] and his wife, Colette Murray, recently returned from their daughter's, Thea Kano, directing debut at Lincoln Center's Alice Tully Hall with the New York City Master Chorale. They are FSAA Life members.

Imad Naffa [1983], the Founder and President of Naffa International, Inc., was recently featured in Fresno's "The Business Journal."

Henry T. Perea [2001] and Yahaira Garcia are engaged to be married in August. He serves the people of District 7 as Councilmember for the City of Fresno.

Amanda Scott [2001] has been named to the NCAA's 11-member 25th Anniversary Division I Softball Team. She was a four-time All-American and MVP of the 1998 College World Series and helped lead the Bulldogs to the 1998 NCAA title.

Antonio "Tony" Serna [1975], principal of Villalovoz Elementary School in Tracy, Calif. was named Educator of the Year at the Celebration of the Life and Legacy of Cesar Chavez, held by the Tracy Unified School District. 

Ronald Zito [1984] was highlighted in the article, "Buggy for Beetles," published by "The Fresno Bee." He owns a 1966 Beetle which has a "Bulldog Red" paint job.
