Co-Chairs of Campaign for Fresno State: Bud and Jan Richter
Community and Fresno State benefactors for more than 60 years, Bud and Jan Richter have been named co-chairs of the "Campaign for Fresno State" for the next two years, President John D. Welty has announced. The longtime Fresno State supporters have established the Richter Awards of Excellence for the Kremen School of Education and Human Development, were honored with the Bulldog Foundation Lifetime Achievement Award, and were named the recipient of the Arthur Safstrom Award at the FSAA's Top Dog Alumni Awards Gala in 2005. The Richter's are FSAA Life members. [Online]

In Memoriam: Dr. Luis F. Costa
Dr. Luis F. Costa, dean emeritus of the College of Arts and Humanities, passed away Aug. 26, 2006. A Fresno State alumnus, he was dean of the college from 1990 to 2004 where he founded University High School and was instrumental in bringing the CSU Summer Arts program to the Fresno State campus.  A memorial celebrating Costa’s contributions to Fresno State will be held Sept. 7 at 5 p.m. in the Concert Hall. Additionally, the Luis Costa Scholarship Endowment has been established at Fresno State. To donate, please call [559] 278-4036.

Artist Rendering of New Library
Demolition of the north and oldest wing of the Henry Madden Library has begun with construction of a new $95 million library to begin soon. With more than one million books, the new library is slated to open during the Fall semester of 2008.

New UBC Director: Emil Milevoj
Fresno State alumnus Emil Milevoj [1998, 2001] has been named the new director of the University Business Center at Fresno State. He had been acting director since January and worked closely with the Agriculture Lending Institute. A native of Croatia, Milevoj was named the Graduate Dean’s Medalist for the Craig School of Business for the Class of 2001.

New Mascot: Victor E. Bulldog
An English Bulldog named Norman was selected from 109 entries as Fresno State's new live mascot. He has been given the title Victor E. Bulldog and is owned by Fresno State alumna Deborah "Debbye" Scott [1987].

Ronald A. Avedisian [1978, 1983] has been elected First Vice President of the American Institute of Parliamentarians. He is an FSAA Life Member.

Wendell Bell [1948] and Lora-Lee [Edwards] Bell [1948] of Bethany, Conn. Recently celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary. FSAA Life members, Wendell Bell was named Outstanding Alumnus for the College of Social Sciences at the FSAA's Top Dog Alumni Awards Gala in 2005.  [Online]

Kurt Chambers [2005] is a Business Instructor at the College of Sequoias in Visalia. Kurt has an MBA from the Sid Craig School of Business and is an FSAA member. 

Eva Chavez [1985] has been promoted to assistant superintendent for human resources with the Merced County Office of Education.

Roy Christopher [1957, 1961] received his seventh Emmy Award in the category of art direction for a variety, music program or special. He was the art director for the 78^th annual Academy Awards and is an FSAA Life member. Christopher was named Distinguished Alumnus by the FSAA at the Top Dog Alumni Awards Gala in 1993. [Online]

John Farris [1975] has been named chairman [interim] of the Division of Teacher Education at Oklahoma Baptist University.

Darryl Inaba was given the highest award possible at the Haight Ashbury Free Clinic by being named the clinic's first Fellow.

Gayle [Colby] Judd [1979] was featured in a article titled "Smart Walls" published in "The Fresno Bee." She's a second grade teacher at Liddell Elementary School in Fresno.

Scott Kruse [1989] was featured in the article titled "Making homes more efficient" published by "The Fresno Bee." He is an FSAA Life Member.

Scott Lamm [1982] was featured in the article "Principals are graded too" published in "The Fresno Bee." He is the Principal of Cooper Middle School.

Nicole [DiBuduo] Linder [1998] is the new director of annual giving and donor relations at Fresno Pacific University. She is an FSAA member.

Marshall Lockie [1986] is the new event production specialist for the National Association of Certified Valuation Analysts, based in Salt Lake City.

Jolene Lucas [1993] was featured in the article titled "Smart walls" published in "The Fresno Bee." She has been teaching at Jefferson Elementary School for 13 years.

Kerry Yo Nakagawa was featured in the article "Film bears witness to baseball legacy" published in "The Fresno Bee." He is the associate producer of the movie "The American Pastime."

Amy Neff [1998] and Alex Balmanno are engaged to be married on October 8, 2006.

Erica Piedra [1998] was featured in the article titled "Fresno, Clovis schools ready for 114,000 kids" published in "The Fresno Bee." She is a second grade teacher at Birney Elementary.

Linda [Lloyd] Pitts [1973] had her artwork was recently featured on the cover of "Audiophile," published by KVPR 89.3 FM [Valley Public Radio]; and on the cover of the season's program of the 2006 Woodward Shakespeare Festival.

Chester Reid [1981] was featured in the article "Bonds of faith" published in "The Fresno Bee." He is the president of Strongtower Financial.

Pat Ricchiuti [1970] of P-R Farms was featured in "The Fresno Bee" giving Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger [D-Calif.] a tour of its facilities. Mr. Ricchiuti recently received the Greater Fresno Area Chamber of Commerce's 2006 Agriculturist of the Year Award. An FSAA Life member, he was also named Outstanding Alumnus for the College of Agricultural Sciences and Technology by the FSAA at the Top Dog Alumni Awards Gala in 2001. [Online]

Jeremy Sasselli [1999] and his wife Elizabeth are proud to announce the birth of their first child, Matthew Ryan, born February 7, 2006. The future Bulldog’s expected to graduate with the Class of 2029.

Adam Salwasser [2000], pictured right with his uncle, Dave Fansler, was the contractor that designed and built the new Yosemite Ranch restaurant in Fresno.

Brian Santiago [2004], sales manager for Califresh of California, was featured in "The Fresno Bee" for offering eight-ounce bags of fresh garbanzo beans which are available at Save Mart Supermarkets.

Jonathan Shabaglian [2002] has a new album out entitled "Stay Near." He will perform at the "JoshuaFest" music festival in Quincy, Calif. on Labor Day weekend.

Daniel Silva [1983] was recently featured in the "Kalamazoo Gazette" for his latest best-selling novel "The Messenger."

D. James Smith [1978] was featured in "The Fresno Bee" for his second book, "Probably the World's Best Story About a Dog and the Girl Who Loved Me." The book takes place a half-century ago in Orange Cove City, which was inspired by Smith's childhood home in Fresno's Tower District.

Jennifer Leigh Taff [2002] and Kevin Ray Smudrick are engaged to be married on November 4, 2006..

Alliyson Tharp [2003] and Robert Medina are engaged to be married in September of 2006.

Kerrie [Harsch] Wisneski [1984] was featured in "The Fresno Bee" as a fifth-grade teacher at the newest school with the Visalia Unified School District: Cottonwood Creek Elementary. She's shown with her special "student of the week" chair, a tradition she's brought from Pinkham Elementary.
