Welcome Sarah Woodward to FSAA Staff
Sarah Woodward, BA ’02, has been appointed the new membership and marketing manager for the Fresno State Alumni Association. Most recently, she was the alumni director of San Joaquin Memorial High School. As a student, she was a member of the Equestrian Team.

FSAA Wins Two Bronze Awards
The FSAA recently received two Bronze Awards-- "The Bulldog Byte" monthly e-newsletter and new logo and tagline "Your Bulldog Connection. For Life." — at the Council for Advancement and Support of Education [CASE]. Fresno State is a member of District VII which includes public and private colleges and universities from throughout Arizona, California, Hawaii, Nevada and Utah.

Library Receives
$10 Million Gift
Table Mountain Rancheria has donated $10 million to the new Henry Madden Library at Fresno State. This gift, the largest single cash gift in the university’s history, will enhance the $95 million dollar project to be completed in the fall of 2008. [Online]

New Library Dean
Peter McDonald has been named the new Dean of the Henry Madden Library. He succeeds Michael Gorman, who is retiring after serving as head of the library since 1998.

AFA Selects Jackie Mundt
Sophomore Jackie Mundt, of Pittsville, Wis. was selected as one of 16 students nationwide to attend the Agriculture of America [AFA] Leaders Conference in Kansas City, Mo. Three years ago, Mundt was elected President of the national FFA organization; she’s majoring in agricultural communications. 

Top Prize for Fresno State Magazine
Fresno State Magazine has been recognized with a Gold Award in the Illustration category in a competition held by the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education [CASE]. The magazine is a twice-yearly publication of Fresno State.

Ag Students Earn Statewide Honors
Twenty students from Fresno State's College of Agricultural Sciences and Technology took top prize in the California Farm Bureau Federation's Young Farmers and Ranchers Annual Collegiate Discussion Meet in Anaheim. Jackie Mundt and Joel Saldana Jr. were finalists. [Online]

Denim Blue Drive Makes Green
Fresno State's “Cotton— From Blue to Green” Drive turned into a community effort which was featured in "Fresno Magazine." Fresno State students were dramatically successful compared to that of the other 14 participating campuses, culminating in the collection of 2,600 pieces of denim.

Hall of Fame: Margie Wright
Fresno State women’s softball coach Margie Wright was featured in "Fresno Magazine" for her induction into the International Women’s Sports Hall of Fame. She is in her 22^nd season coaching at Fresno State, and is the only coach in California State University, Fresno to lead a team to a national championship. Wright was also on the Gold-medal winning US Olympic Softball Team Coaching Staff— Atlanta, 1996.

Baseball’s Wetzel Selected for Wallace Watch List
Jan. 27, vs. Alumni. Bulldog second baseman Eric Wetzel [#3] was selected as part of the watch list for the 2006 Brooks Wallace Award, which is given to the top college baseball player in the nation.

Scholar: Rochelle Jagdoe
Named to the NSCAA Women’s Scholar All-American team, soccer player, Rochelle Jagdeo [#7], was given the honor because of her excellence both on the field and in the classroom.

Freshmen of the Year: Lacey Gera
Women’s volleyball player, Lacey Gera [#9], was named WAC Freshman of the Year for 2006. Lacey is an outside hitter from San Jose.

Pamela Davies [1972] has retired after 36 years with the Fresno Unified School District.

James Hallowell was featured in "Imagine" [Jan. 2007] for attending and supporting the Community Medical Foundation Gala. He was honored at the FSAA's Top Dog Alumni Awards Gala in 1974; his wife Coke Hallowell [1957], was honored in 2005.

Donald G. Larson [1960] is highlighted in the article "A Peek Inside" about his vast model railroad collection in "Imagine," a special publication of "The Fresno Bee."

Nicole [DiBuduo] Linder [1998] was highlighted in the recent issue of "Imagine" for attending the California Valley Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals National Philanthropy Day Awards luncheon.

Julia [Dudley] Najieb [1995] is producing, writing and directing the film "Stars too High." She is also the author of "Marcus Wesson: Mysterious Web of Deception."

Etroy Nelson [1997], assistant track coach at Fresno City College, was recently highlighted in “The Fresno Bee.”

Adam LaZarre [1997] has had his wine, Cycles Gladiator, recommended by "The San Francisco Chronicle"-- "In a sea of unremarkable $10 wines from California, the Cycles Gladiator lineup -- introduced this year -- stands out immediately. The fruit-forward wines taste far better than almost all of their peers."

Brandon Molale [1996] appears in two upcoming feature films-- "Ball of Fury" and "Reno 911!: Miami." Both films are slated for release in early 2007. [Online]

Robert Oliver [1966], chairman of the Fresno State Foundation’s Board of Governors, accepted the outstanding philanthropic organization award from the Association of Fundraising Professionals’ Awards Luncheon. He is a past recipient of the FSAA Top Dog Alumni Award.

Kevin Phillips [2000] and Lori Dias are engaged to be married June 2007.

John Rios [2004] is the creator of "Dead Days," the comic strip that was originally featured in "The Collegian" here at Fresno State and recently highlighted in “The Fresno Bee.”

James Sandrini [1976] and his wife Helen, were highlighted in the Jan. 2007 issue of "Imagine." As a student, he was active in Sigma Chi.

Jeffrey Schmidt [2003] begins his first year as head basketball coach for Hoover High. Last summer, he coached at the Michael Jordan Flight School in Santa Barbara.

Jack Smithson, III, Airman 1^st Class, staffed the main gate at Royal Air Force Lakenheath in the UK on Christmas Day, 2006.

Jeffrey Tedford [1992], head coach of the Cal Golden Bears, won the Holiday Bowl after Cal beat Texas A&M 45-10 on Dec. 28, 2006. He is a past FSAA Top Dog Alumni Award winner.

Robert Thissen [1997] has had his short film, "Paradox Road," selected in the fifth week of voting at the "Exposure Film Contest" conducted by the Sci-Fi and Sundance Channels. Vote at SCIFI and SUNDANCE.

Raymond Valdez is the Head Chef at Lantana Steak House in Fresno. He was featured in the Nov. 2006 issue of "Nouveh" magazine.

Tammie [Lewis] Vawter [1983] and her husband, Brian, were featured in the Jan. 2007 issue of "Imagine" for attending the Community Medical Foundation Gala.

Laureen Vonnegut [1982]  published her novel, "Oasis" in October, 2006. She currently lives in Bucharest, Romania.

Aleta [Walkowiak] Wolfe [1988], her husband David, and family were featured in article "Someone you should know" published by "The Fresno Bee." They are mentors for Big Brothers Big Sisters.

A.J. Yates [1957] has retired as undersecretary of the California Department of Food and Agriculture. He is a past FSAA Top Dog Alumni Award winner.
