Library Receives
$10 Million Gift

Table Mountain Rancheria has donated $10 million to the new Henry Madden Library at Fresno State. This gift, the largest single cash gift in the university’s history, will enhance the $95 million dollar project to be completed in the fall of 2008. [Online]

Peter McDonald has been named the new Dean of the Henry Madden Library. He succeeds Michael Gorman, who is retiring after serving as head of the library since 1998.

Jackie Mundt.AFA Selects Jackie Mundt
Sophomore Jackie Mundt, of
Pittsville, Wis. was selected as one of 16 students nationwide to attend the Agriculture of America [AFA] Leaders Conference in Kansas City, Mo. Three years ago, Mundt was elected President of the national FFA organization; she’s majoring in agricultural communications. 

CASE Gold Award.Top Prize for Fresno State Magazine
Fresno State Magazine has been recognized with a Gold Award in the Illustration category in a competition held by the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education [CASE]. The magazine is a twice-yearly publication of Fresno State.

Twenty students from Fresno State's College of Agricultural Sciences and Technology took top prize in the California Farm Bureau Federation's Young Farmers and Ranchers Annual Collegiate Discussion Meet in Anaheim. Jackie Mundt and Joel Saldana Jr. were finalists. [Online]

Fresno State women’s softball coach Margie Wright was featured in "Fresno Magazine" for her induction into the International Women’s Sports Hall of Fame. She is in her 22nd season coaching at Fresno State, and is the only coach in California State University, Fresno to lead a team to a national championship. Wright was also on the Gold-medal winning US Olympic Softball Team Coaching Staff— Atlanta, 1996.

Eric Wetzel, #3.Baseball’s Wetzel Selected for Wallace Watch List
Jan. 27, vs. Alumni. Bulldog second baseman Eric Wetzel [#3] was selected as part of the watch list for the 2006 Brooks Wallace Award, which is given to the top college baseball player in the nation.

Rochelle Jagdeo, #7.Scholar: Rochelle Jagdoe
Named to the NSCAA Women’s Scholar All-American team, soccer player, Rochelle Jagdeo [#7], was given the honor because of her excellence both on the field and in the classroom.

Lacey Gera, #9.Freshmen of the Year: Lacey Gera
Women’s volleyball player, Lacey Gera [#9], was named WAC Freshman of the Year for 2006. Lacey is an outside hitter from San Jose.

Pamela Davies.Pamela Davies [1972] has retired after 36 years with the Fresno Unified School District.

Steve Hosey was highlighted in "The Fresno Bee" for participating in the City of Fresno's "firefighter for a day" program. As a student, he was a member for the Bulldogs' baseball team and subsequently played for the San Francisco Giants.

Emilee, Ashlee and Gracee Peters.Matthew Peters [1994] and his wife, Cadee, are the proud parents of triplets— Emilee, Ashlee and Gracee—born in September. Big brother Zachary is pleased as punch!

Kevin Philps and Lori Dias.Kevin Phillips [2000] and Lori Dias are engaged to be married June 2007.

James and Helen Sandrini.James Sandrini [1976] and his wife Helen, were highlighted in the Jan. 2007 issue of "Imagine." As a student, he was active in Sigma Chi.

Michael Jordan &Jeff Schmidt.Jeffrey Schmidt [2003] begins his first year as head basketball coach for Hoover High. Last summer, he coached at the Michael Jordan Flight School in Santa Barbara.

Jack Smithson, III.Jack Smithson, III, Airman 1st Class, staffed the main gate at Royal Air Force Lakenheath in the UK on Christmas Day, 2006.

"Paradox Road" by Rober Thissen.Robert Thissen [1997] has had his short film, "Paradox Road," selected in the fifth week of voting at the "Exposure Film Contest" conducted by the Sci-Fi and Sundance Channels. Vote at SCIFI and SUNDANCE.

AJ Yates/A.J. Yates [1957] has retired as undersecretary of the California Department of Food and Agriculture. He is a past FSAA Top Dog Alumni Award winner.
