A junior, Megan Jacobsen follows in her brother’s [Ryan Jacobsen, ’02 and ’04] footsteps to Fresno State. An agricultural communications major from Easton, she’s a FSAA student scholarship recipient and also a member of the Smittcamp Family Honors College. “I’m very thankful for the countless of opportunities that have come my way while attending Fresno State,” she said. “FSAA members are the foundation to the success of so many students, including myself. Thank you for your generosity.”

A sophomore, Jared Lindo is the inaugural recipient of the Bulldog Pride Fund, an endowment scholarship maintained by the FSAA. A civil engineering major, he’s also the third brother from his Modesto-area family to attend Fresno State. “I dearly appreciate this kindness,” says Jared. “I promise to work hard with my studies to make you proud!”

New Earthquake Lab Open House Features Simulated Quake and House Demolition
The grand opening of the Earthquake Modeling and Simulation Facility featured a demonstration of "shaking table" that simulates earthquakes. The lab will allow for more learning about preventative measures to make homes and buildings safer in the future. [Online]

Joshua Alexander [2004] and Kelly Sansom [2005] were married April 28, 2007. Kelly was a member of the equestrian team while at Fresno State.

Scott Bentley [1995, 2001] breaks ground May 6th, 2007 on his new home in Fresno Cohousing. Bentley and 27 other households are creating an environmentally sustainable, old fashioned neighborhood featuring the latest in "green" technology and design called La Querencia.

David Carr [2001], former Fresno State quarterback and former quarterback for the Houston Texans, has agreed to a 2-year deal with the Carolina Panthers as a backup quarterback.

Cary Catalano [1999] is a Principal and Co-founder of Catalano Fenske & Associates. He is featured in the "Profile" section of "The Business Journal."

Samuel Cavallaro [1994], along with Warren Fortier and Andrew Nazaroff, have recently opened Realty Executives Summit in the Fresno/Clovis area. The company will serve Fresno, Madera, Kings and Tulare Counties.

Daniel Chacon [1989], author of "Chicano Chicanery" and "And the Shadows Took Him," visited West Hills College's Coalinga, Lemoore and Firebaugh campuses earlier this month to talk about the importance of success. He currently teaches creative writing at the University of Texas, El Paso.

Paul Chestnut [2005] has successfully completed the California Highway Patrol cadet training. He has been assigned to duty at the CHP's San Francisco area office.

John Christy [1973], Professor and Director of the Earth System Science Center, at the University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH), will be the technology keynote speaker at the inaugural Rocket City Geospatial Conference, October 15-17, 2007. Christy is an internationally recognized expert on global climate change and a member of the U.N.’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.

William "Bill" Coate [1984] has once again led a cross-country wagon train carrying Fresno County students.

Jennifer (JJ) Cobb [1994] will direct Othelio: The Moor of Venice from June 28, 2007 to July 28, 2007 at the Woodward Park Shakespeare Festival.

Christopher Feierbach [2002] and Laurel McClintick are engaged to be married June 2007.

Deborah Poochigian [1974] has decided to run for Fresno County Supervisor in 2008. Deborah is an FSAA life member as well as a board member.

 

William Reeves [2006] and September Lopez [2006] are engaged to be married October 2007.

Peter Robertson [1992, 1995, 2005] has been elected to the Board of Directors of Tree Fresno. Robertson is a three-time graduate of Fresno State with a BA, MA and MBA.

Asha Pritpal Sidhu [MBA, 2005] will be receiving the Life Time Achievement Award for his commitment to Seniors and Long-term care Industry. The award is given at Business Street's "Heroes in Health Care Awards Gala" on April 26, 2007.

Julia Anne Smith [1993] was featured in the article titled "The thrill of victory" published by "The Fresno Bee." Smith is a teacher at Lane Elementary School in Fresno.

Melvin Smith, Jr. [2005] is the chief operating officer for Medmania, Inc. His responsibilities include business development, sales, marketing, strategic planning, and management consulting.

David St. John [1972] is featured in the Pittsburgh Contemporary Writers Series and will give an afternoon lecture and evening readings April 4 at the University of Pittsburgh. St. John is the author of six books of poetry, including "Prism", "Study for the World's Body: New and Selected Poems", and "Hush".

Robert Thissen [1997] appeared on the Sci-Fi Channel on the TV show "Exposure" film contest with his short film "PARADOX ROAD."

Shauna Vandemark  [1999] and John Sauceda were married November 25, 2006 in Visalia.

Robert Vartabedian [1974] is one of the two finalists up for the position of President of Southeastern Oklahoma State University. .

Sarah Woodward [2002] was promoted to the Associate Director of the Fresno State Alumni Association. She is an FSAA member.
