Donnell Alexander is an author well noted for his personal
memoirs. His first book, "Ghetto Celebrity," was released in 2003.
His second
book is expected to be released winter 2007.
Stewart Asselin [1995] was awarded the "Good Samaritan Hero"
award at the 2007 Madera-Fresno Red Cross Heroes Breakfast. He rescued a
man and woman involved in a tragic boating accident on Millerton Lake.
Vicki Barbolak [1981] placed first in the "Nick at Nite's
Funniest Mom in America 3" contest, cashing in on the $50,000 prize.
Marvin R. Baxter [1963], Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of
California, will be the keynote speaker at Southwestern Law School's 92nd
Commencement Ceremony.
Paul Bergson [1985] has been appointed senior vice president,
agricultural loan officer of Community Business Bank in Stockton.
Malinda Pennoyer Chouinard [1969]
received the honorary degree
of Doctor of Humane Letters at the Fresno State commencement ceremony in
May. Malinda co-founded Patagonia Inc., which revolutionized clothing for
mountain climbing.
Roy Christopher [1957] received the honorary degree of Doctor
of Fine Arts at the Fresno State commencement ceremony in May. His work
has been nominated for Emmy Awards 35 times. He received a Los Angeles
Drama Critics Circle Award and two Garland awards for his creative
theater-design work. In 2003, he received the Art Directors Guild Lifetime
Achievement Award.
Abel Corchado
[1989]
and his watercolor paintings were featured in an article written by the
Merced Sun Star newspaper.
Vince Elizondo
[1979] is the director of
the Visalia Parks and Recreation Department . He is currently in the progress of
finishing the large scale Visalia Riverway Sports Park, which is due to
open in August. A new, state-of-the-art aquatics center is also in the
works.
John Fendrick [1971] is retiring from the Bakersfield Symphony
Orchestra after being with the group since 1970. Fendrick will continue
playing jazz with his band, Southside Chicago Seven.
Billy Hemphill Jr. [1998, 2001], and his wife Michelle welcomed
their first child Makayla to their family.
Mark Houghton [1989] will take the reins as Manteca's public works
director on July 9, replacing longtime administrator Mike Brinton. He
currently is a deputy director of public works for Toulumne County.
Ottis Hutchinson [1983] has been installed as the 50th Mission
Support Group commander at Schriever Air Force Base, Colorado. As
commander, he is responsible for providing security, civil engineering,
fire protection, medical response, personnel, contracting, logistics and
services support to more than 6,000 Schriever AFB personnel.
Sarah Koligian [1984] has been selected to become the new
Superintendent of the Golden Valley Unified School District. She is
currently Associate Superintendent of Educational Services in Central
Unified.

Patrick Ogle
[1965], who has served as the executive director for the Bulldog
Foundation since 1982, will be honored at the annual National Association
of Athletics Development Directors. He spent 17 years in television
broadcasting as a sports editor, news anchor,
reporter and producer.
Cornelius O'Neill [2007] graduated with a Bachelors of Science
in Engineering from California State University, Fresno at the age of 84.
University officials say he is one of the university's oldest graduates.
O'Neill originally pursued a degree during the 1940's, but his college
career was interrupted by WWII. He continued working towards his degree,
and he received his at commencement.
Aaron Pisk
[2007] graduateded
from Fresno State "cum laude" (grade point average of at least 3.5) with
university honors as a presidential scholar. His degree is in business
administration with a marketing option.
Karina Reynoso [2004]
was featured in THE VISALIA-TIMES DELTA for her commentary article on the
risks and trials of living uninsured. She earned her B.S. in Child
Development.
Jason Rider [2001] was featured in the article titled "One
Family's Tradition" published by "The Fresno Bee." Jason was sworn in as a
firefighter at Fresno City Hall on April 27th.
Amy Spithorst has been named Teacher of the Year by the Elk
Grove Unified School District. Amy teaches agriculture at Florin High
School.
Roxanne (Nury) Stephenson [1982] is the newest member the
University Advisory Board, a panel of community members who advise the
president regarding the improvement and development of the university. She
was owner and president of Promac Fabrication and Equipment, and is a
member of the board of directors of Vie-Del Company and Madera
Enterprises.
Ian Wieland
[2007] graduated from the Smittcamp Family Honors College at Fresno
State with a grade point average of 3.87 magna cum laude with university
honors as a presidential scholar. He double majored in history and
political science.
Dan Zahlis
[1987], owner of Active Agenda, are leading the way in growing the
business world of open-source software.
