Fresno State faculty members Hernan Maldonado and Segun Ogunjemiyo were recognized as E. (Kika) de la Garza Fellows in the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Hispanic-Serving Institutions National Program. They are among 20 faculty members nationwide selected from Hispanic-Serving Institutions, accredited degree-granting institutions of higher education with a Hispanic student enrollment of 25 percent or more. Fresno State student body president Juan Pablo Moncayo is one of 434 students selected nationwide to intern this summer through the nationally-recognized Sponsors of Educational Opportunity (SEO) career program. Russel Statham. Student named to statewide post
California State University, Fresno junior Russel Statham, the student body’s vice president of finance, has been named to the California State Student Association (CSSA) executive team. He is the second officer from Fresno State’s Associated Students Inc. in the past five years to serve as an executive officer in the statewide organization.

Hector Hernandez To Represent Mexican National Team This Summer
Hernandez will represent his country this summer in the FIBA Americas Olympic qualifying tournament with the Mexican National Team. Prior to the Olympic qualifying with the team will also try and qualify for the 2009 World Games. [Online]

Two of Fresno State's outstanding senior football players are getting from excellent preseason recognition as Tyler Clutts and Ryan Wendall are put on the prestigious watch list. [Online]

Matt Ryan. Matt Ryan Announced To Southwest All-Region Team By Golf Coaches Association of America
The Golf Coaches Association of America announced that Fresno State sophomore, Matthew Ryan, earned All-Region honors for the Southwest Region. Ryan was also honored by the WAC as a First-Team All-Conference member. He averaged 72.12 and had five top-twenty finishes in his first year as a Bulldog. [Online]

Jennifer Shipley.Shipley Receives Division I Kim Moore Spirit Award
The National Golf Coaches Association announced that Sophomore Jennifer Shipley was among one of the recipients earning the Kim Moore Spirit Award. Winners were recognized at the NGCA Division I Awards Banquet held in Daytona Beach, Florida on Friday evening, May 25. [Online]

The USA Softball team announced the roster for its 2007 Women's National Team, which included former Bulldog standouts Laura Berg and Lovie Jung. [Online]

Jay Udwadia.Udwadia Selected as USTA NorCal National Team Coach
Jay Udwadia, who for the last three seasons has served as the head coach of the Fresno State men's tennis team, has been selected to coach the United State Tennis Association national team championships July 27-31, 2007. [Online]

Women's Tennis team. Bulldogs Finish Womens Tennis Season Ranked No. 14
The Fresno State women's tennis team finished an outstanding season as the No. 14 team in the country after the final rankings were released. It is one of the best finishes for the Bulldogs in program history. [Online]

Mallory Webb.Webb Sixth at NCAA Championships
For the third time in her career, Mallory Webb earned All-America honors. Webb, a senior from Dundee, Ore., placed sixth at the 2007 NCAA Championship meet in Sacramento with a throw of 169 feet 9 inches in the javelin. [Online]

 

 Fresno State Alumni Class Notes

Editha "Ann" Atkinson and her husband, Jerry Atkinson, who own Center Chevrolet in San Bernadino, received the Rotary High Ethical Standards in Business Award for their and their company's community and state involvement. The two met while attending California State University, Fresno.

JessaLee Blackwell and Sonny Goehring. JessaLee Blackwell [2002] and Sonny Goehring were married on Oct. 7, 2006 at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Lodi, California. They spent their honeymoon in Hawaii and make their home in Lockeford, California.

Kim Bobby.Kim Bobby [1991] has been appointed by the University of Puget Sound to the position of chief diversity officer. She will also teach at the university as an associate professor of education. She earned her bachelor's degree in business administration from California State University, Fresno.

Scott Fichtner.Scott Fichtner [1998] now works as an Agronomist for Western Farm Service after majoring in Plant Science at Fresno State, receiving his Masters degree from Texas A&M University [2001], and his PhD from Colorado State University [2007]. Fichtner comes from a family of Bulldogs; his father Edwin [1962], his mother Patricia (Daldin) Fichtner [1964], and his brother Edwin Fichtner [1997] all graduated from Fresno State!

Marisol and Isabella Gunn.Shane & Bianca Gunn are proud to announce the birth of their valentines day twin girls! Marisol weighed 6 pounds 8 ounces, and Isabella weighed 5 pounds 14 ounces. Mom, dad and the girls are all doing wonderful!

Allen K. Lanse.Allen K. Lanse [1977] was featured in the June 2007 edition of the Imagine Fresno magazine for his impressive restoration of his 1959 Austin Healy MkIII. The car had been undergoing restoration for 10 years by Lanse. Only 17,712 cars were manufactured during its 12 years of production.

Florence Ndidi (O'Neal) Griffin and Louie Myers. Florence Ndidi (O'Neal) Griffin [1985], a Fresno State nursing professor, is engaged to be married to Louie Myers of Illinois on July 7, 2007. Myers won an all expense paid honeymoon to South Africa from ESSENCE magazine after entering a contest for potential grooms which was featured on "Good Morning America".

Anthony Green.Anthony O'Geen [1966] plans to retire in the next few years after 38 years of teaching physics and biology at Bret Harte High School. O’Geen was named Bret Harte’s Teacher of the Year in 1996, and again in 2006. In addition to teaching high school, he also coaches cross-country running at Columbia College.

Nancy Osborne. Nancy Osborne [1976] celebrated her 30 year milestone working as an anchorwoman, reporter, producer, writer and host at KFSN, Channel 30. She graduated from California State University, Fresno where she received degrees in speech communication and theatre arts.

Henry T. Perea [(2001] and his family were featured in Henry T. Perea. the June edition of the Imagine Fresno magazine. For Perea, becoming a public servant was a natural choice. "I've always been involved in the community in some way." Perea is currently a member of the Fresno City Council representing District 7.

Marc Raygoza [1995] founded the business Vine Global, an online interface which offers e-commerce solutions that enable U.S. online retailers to quickly and cost-effectively expand into international markets through language. Raygoza graduated from California State University, Fresno with a degree in accounting. 

Al Sanchez.Al Sanchez [1969] has retired as principle of Mayfair Elementary School after 23 years of service.

Joseph Soldani. Joseph Soldani [1971] is retiring from his post as the Madera City Attorney, a position he has held for 14 years. Soldani was the first full-time city attorney for Madera.

Logo: Gennis. Brenda (Carpenter) Weatherly [1986] has joined the Gennis Agency as Director of Sales. Weatherly has a degree in advertising from California State University, Fresno. Previously with the Hollister Free Lance and other San Benito County Businesses and organizations, Weatherly will be in charge of New Business Sales and Marketing for the agency.

Warren Weaver. Warren Weaver [1969] is retiring from his position as agriculture professor at Elk Grove High School, a post he held for nearly four decades. He has taught agriculture to an estimated 8,000 high school students. He graduated with a degree in agriculture from California State University, Fresno.

James Vergara.James Vergara [1980], the current Media Production Coordinator for San Joaquin Delta College, recently won an Aurora Award for his Delta College recruitment video for their Police Academy, "POST Academy." The Aurora Award is a national competition that recognizes excellence in video/film/media production. April 27th.
