Chapter Spotlight -
Chicano Alumni |
 Since
its inception, the Chicano Alumni chapter has played a vital role in
representing the interests of Chicano Alumni of the University. In 1976,
the CA founders sought to create an organization that would serve as the
primary vehicle for Chicano alumni to stay in touch with their
University.
This year the Chicano Alumni chapter gave 10 scholarships to bright &
talented students. The chapter hosts tailgate fiestas and an
annual scholarship banquet.

Spotlight!
 John
R. Christy (1973) is Professor of Atmospheric Science and
Director of the Earth System Science Center at the University of
Alabama in Huntsville. He received his B.A. in Mathematics from
California State University, Fresno. He received NASA’s Medal
for Exceptional Scientific Achievement and a Special Award from the
American Meteorological Society of which he is a Fellow. He is
Alabama’s State Climatologist and has served on numerous panels
(e.g., American Geophysical Union, National Research Council, etc.)
including lead authorship duties for the United Nations’
Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) which recently
shared the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize.
 Robert
Weibel (1990) is a figurative artist and printmaker producing a
variety of works on paper from his RAW INK Studio in Fresno, California.
His recent unique, permanent, public art installation for ROE Pacific
Fusion Restaurant and Lounge has led to exploring images of the human
figure in 3D on mesh materials. Weibel graduated with a degree in
psychology.
 Brian Turner (1994),
an U.S. Army Iraq war veteran, is the author of "Here, Bullet," the
winner of the 2005 Beatrice Hawley Award. He graduated from California
State University, Fresno with a bachelor's degree in English.
 Tom
Fleming(1986) has published a travel memoir, "Taxi to Tashkent",
about the two years he served as a health teacher with the Peace Corps
in Uzbekistan. Fleming discusses the complex history and culture of
Central Asia, and explores Uzbekistan's current political tensions. He
also describes the challenges of teaching HIV prevention in one of the
area's most conservative regions.
 Richard
Santana (1992) is the founder of Homeboy Goes To Harvard
Productions, a group of Latino motivational speakers who discuss
diversity, self-esteem, education, gang prevention, drug awareness,
pregnancy prevention and healthy choices. They speak at educational
conferences, parent workshops, staff development events and school
assemblies. Santana graduated with a bachelor's degree in liberal
studies from California State University, Fresno, and went on to earn
his Master's degree in education from Harvard University.
 Carmen
Sosa (1988) and Bill Fraser are happy to announce their marriage on
November 13, 2006 in the Cowell Theater at Fort Mason in San Francisco.
They currently reside in Oakland, CA
 Jennifer
Reimer (2006) was appointed as a California State University student
trustee by Gov. Schwarzenegger in 2006. A Dean's Medalist from the
Division of Student Affairs, Jennifer graduated from Fresno State with a
double major in business administration and music performance; she was
also a Smittcamp Family Honors Scholar
 Lori
Clanton (1996)
joined the Fresno Regional Foundation staff in May of 2006, bringing 15
years of business experience to the company. She earned her bachelor's
degree in psychology and her Master's degree in business administration
from California State University, Fresno.
