YOU to William Beck (1952)
The estate of alumnus William N. Beck has conveyed a $100,000 bequest to
the Bulldog Pride
Scholarship Fund, whose annual competitive awards are presented under
the aegis of the Fresno State Alumni Association.
The Beck bequest is the biggest to an alumni association scholarship
endowment at any of the California State University’s 23 campuses, said
Peter Robertson, director of annual giving at California State University,
Fresno.
"We are privileged to have had the opportunity to meet such a generous man,”
said Valerie Vuicich, president of the Alumni Association Board of
Directors. “Mr. Beck loved this university and his dedication is a true
example of Bulldog Pride. His gift will positively affect the lives of

State dominated the '40 Under 40' list of the honorees for early

State University, Fresno has joined a prestigious collaboration of top
physicists, giving the Department of Physics’ students, faculty and
staff access to the most up-to-date information possible on new
frontiers in the science for the next 15 years or longer. The
program is the ATLAS (an acronym for A Toroidal LHC ApparatuS)
Experiment, which makes use of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) under
construction at the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN)

Our
campus farm has won another medal – a silver award for the 2006 Fresno
State Extra Virgin Olive Oil – from the California Olive Oil Council (COOC)
at last month’s San Diego Bay Wine & Food Festival.
The annual competition featured submissions from California olive oil
producers for awards in categories for extra virgin and flavored olive
oils.
This is the third medal in less than two years for the Fresno

Madden library won a major design award. The Long Beach/South
Bay chapter of the American Institute of Architects has honored AC
Martin Partners for its design of the Henry Madden Library at California
State University, Fresno. AC Martin Partners, a Los Angeles-based
architectural firm, designed the $105 million library expansion project,
which will be completed in about a year and become the academic campus'

Anthony Durham, who joined the creative writing faculty at
California State University, Fresno this semester, has won Best of 2007
acclaim from Kirkus Reviews, Publishers Weekly and Fantasy Magazine for

The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute's (OLLI) Kick-Off/Bring a Friend Event is on Thursday, January 24 at the Satellite Student Union. The public is invited and free parking is available in Lots J, N, O and P. Fresno State's OLLI is among 114 such institutes founded at universities throughout the United States. It offers lectures, workshops, short courses, and field trips to adults age 50+ who wish to continue learning and exploring for the sheer joy of it. A semester membership is $55 per person for a General Membership and $15 per person for an Associate Membership.

Dr. John D. Welty is one of 60 individuals nationwide honored by the
American Humanics Management and Leadership Institute. American
Humanics is a national alliance of colleges, universities and nonprofits
with a mission to educate, prepare and certify professionals to

commemorates the program’s 60th anniversary, recognizes Welty and the
others for their commitment to the mission of American Humanics and

been selected as the 2008 honorees for the Common Threads Award, which

Fresno
State was well represented this month at the 36th Annual American
Humanics Management Institute in Kansas City, Mo., where
participants learned nonprofit management tips from local and national
experts. The Jan. 3-6 institute exposed students to experiences they
will encounter as nonprofit professionals. Seventeen Fresno State
students, two alumni and a faculty member attended the symposium. They
were among 550 American Humanics students and faculty - and more than
200 nonprofit and corporate leaders - who used the opportunity to
network, participate in simulated case studies and a national collegiate

Cafe Scientifique looks at primate mating and
relationships
The topic, “Size Matters: a tale of male mating
strategies in nonhuman primates,” is a
pre-Valentine’s Day special that will address the
biological and evolutionary implications of mating
in primates and how it plays a major role in
regulating relationships within primate social
groups. The meeting will be held from 6:30 to 8:30
p.m. at Lucy’s Lair, 10063 N. Maple Ave (northwest
corner of Maple and Behymer). The main presentation
will begin at 7, followed by discussion. Seating is
limited.

Michael
Krikorian (1984) owns and operates HAMAK which is a full service,
nationwide audio/video production company. The main production
facility is located in Fresno. Krikorian has studios in the San Francisco
Area, New York City Area and Atlanta, Georgia area. The audio/music
production is headed by multi-platinum producer Cliff Davies. HAMAK
records new artists as well as classic rock artists. Michael is
currently upgrading to HD production and produce television pilot's,
concert and music videos and commercials for national and worldwide
broadcast. Fresno is their home base for the video production.

Pessano (1973) is featured in an article entitled
" New theater to bear name of Dan Pessano" in the
Clovis Independent. On Jan. 23 board members voted
to name the black box theater at the Clovis North
Educational Center the "Dan Pessano Theater."

Missouri Western State University.

Glyde (1995) is composing the percussion
instruments in a 2,008-piece marching band that will

a Golden Globe as Best Animated Fill of 2007. He is

Vogel (1967) is featured in an article entitled
"Lodi-area Supervisor Ken Vogel named new San
Joaquin board
chairman," in the "Lodi News-sentinel." Vogel was
elected as chairman of the Board of Supervisors by
his colleagues on Monday.
Roy
Christopher (1957) has been assigned to be the
production designer of the Academy Awards for the
18th time.
Janice
Mekeel, principal of La Sierra Charter High
School is Featured in an article entitled " Mekeel
Leads La Sierra students toward success." This
article is published by "The Porterville Recorder."
Kris
Curran (1996) is featured in an article entitled
"Sea Smoke Vineyards gives personalities to pinot
noirs" by "The Capital Times." This
article featured her award winning work at the Sea Smoke
Vineyards.
Justin
Conder (2004) recently had one of his photos
from a NASCAR event in Richmond, Va. published in a
special NASCAR issue of Sports Illustrated that is
on stands now. Justin is a former photographer for
Athletic Media Relations and The Collegian, and now
works near Baltimore at Patuxent Publishing.
Bill
Jones (1971) received the Leon S. Peters award. Bill is a former
California secretary of state and state legislator,
he founded Pacific Ethanol.
Michelle
Resendes was featured in the article entitled
"School counts on ex-accountant" published by "The
Fresno Bee." Michelle is a teacher at Nelson
Elementary School.
Stephen
Spach (2005) and college sweetheart Katey Feeley
(2005) are engaged to be married March 1st, 2008.
Stephen has recently been picked up by the
undefeated New England Patriots.
Joseph
Bowerbank (1996) is director of marketing for
Loan Score Decisioning Systems LLC, and is an emerging
leader in enterprise-class automated underwriting
solutions for lending institutions. Joseph will
drive development of the company’s marketing,
branding and communications strategy.
David
White (1983), president of MEC Aerial Work
Platforms Company and co-chairman of the Regional
Jobs Initiative Manufacturing Cluster, was profiled
in the City of Fresno's Business Journal. White
graduated from California State University, Fresno
with a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering.
Linda
Pitts is showing her art at Chris Sorensen's
Gallery and Margaret Hudson Gallery, as well as in FRESNO Magazine. Ms.
Pitts began showing her work after 60 years of
painting and has had great success. Shown to
the left is a piece called Storm Coming.
