In Memoriam -
Bill
Forbes (1948) passed away on February 19th. Mr. Forbes was
a long time FSAA board member and was a dedicated Fresno State alumnus.
He was the driving force behind the construction of the Smittcamp Alumni
House as the Chair of the Alumni House Building Campaign.

The new College of Engineering Honors Program at California State
University is in development and now has its first director and its
inaugural council of faculty for guidance. Dr. Nagy Bengiamin will serve
as the program's first director.

artist's sculptures to be featured at Fresno State
The bronze sculptures of graduate student Claudia Nolan will be on
display in the Conley Gallery at California State University, Fresno on
Feb. 28 to March 7. Nolan, a painter, sculptor and computer
artist, investigates the contemporary dilemmas of a fast-paced world in
her exhibition, "Contravening Postulates." She is completing her

Armenian Film Festival - Speakers planned in March
The Armenian Studies Program at Fresno State and co-sponsors have
planned three programs in March, beginning March 7 with the ninth annual
Armenian Film Festival. All three events are free and open to the
public. The film festival will be at 7 p.m. in the Grosse
Industrial Technology Building, Room 101 (corner of Barstow and Campus

Fresno State President John D. Welty joined California State University
officials in bringing the college message to thousands of prospective
students and their families at the Third Annual CSU Super Sundays.

the congregations to engage the community by encouraging students to go

Fresno State will host Levine Prize-winning poet
Lynn Aarti Chandhok of Brooklyn, N.Y., whose "The View from Zero Bridge"
won the 2006 Philip Levine Prize in Poetry and has recently garnered

Institute hosts ‘Fiscal Wake-Up Tour’ March 6
The Maddy Institute at Fresno State is hosting the bipartisan
Concord Coalition’s “Fiscal Wake-Up Tour,”
which will address federal budget issues. The event is scheduled for
Thursday, March 6 in the Ambassador Room of the Piccadilly Inn
University, 4961 N. Cedar Ave. A press conference at 11 a.m. will
be followed by a luncheon talk. Tickets to the luncheon are $45 per
person or $320 for a table of

The Corporation for National and Community Service honored California
State University, Fresno, today (Feb. 11) at the American Council on
Education (ACE) annual conference with a Special Achievement Award as
part of the second annual President's Higher Education Community Service
Honor Roll. Fresno State was one of two minority-serving institutions
that received the special achievement award in recognition of its

Lecture Series
Yusef Komunyakaa, born in Bogalusa, Louisiana, is the author of twelve
books of poetry, among them Neon Vernacular: New and Selected Poems,
which won the Pulitzer Prize. The New York Times calls his writing
“fiercely autobiographical” poetry, with much of it based on his
childhood in the rural South and his experience as a young
