Many
thanks to all the sponsors and volunteers who helped raised
approximately $10,000 at the 13th Annual Alumni & Friends of the Craig
School of Business Golf Tournament last Friday! Through their fundraising
efforts at events such as this and their annual homecoming week wine
tasting, the Alumni & Friends of the Craig School were able to bring their
scholarship endowment to over $60,000 this year.

governor plans budget cuts in 2008/09 that would leave our 23-campus
California State University another $386 million in the hole. The

18th - The Kremen School Community Council has collaborated with
Fresno Grizzlies Baseball, the Bonner Family Foundation, Spano
Enterprises, and 55 Valley schools in an effort to raise funds to
support the peer mediation program, Mediator Mentors. The game starts at
1:00 p.m. – attend the game and support student mediators in the Valley.

Center for Economic Research and Education of Central California at
Fresno State and the Economic Development
Corporation (EDC) serving Fresno County are partners in a new alliance
designed to add research opportunities to help local businesses create

Osher Lifelong Learning Institute's (OLLI) summer 2008 schedule
includes guided tours of Yosemite National Park (June 13) and Hearst
Castle (July 15). Fresno State's OLLI is one of 119 such institutes in
the United States focusing on learning opportunities for retired and

Julie Olson-Buchanan, a professor of human resource management, has
been awarded the top teaching honor at California State University,
Fresno. Dr. Jeri Echeverria, provost and vice president of Academic
Affairs, named Olson-Buchanan as recipient of the 2008 Excellence in

Six MBA students won in three categories at the 44th annual International Collegiate Business Strategy Competition, April 17-19 in San Diego. The competition tests students’ abilities to manage a simulated company against other collegiate teams. [full article]
Fresno
State was awarded a 2008 state energy Efficiency Partnership Best
Practices Award for the university’s solar photovoltaic and shaded
parking project, designed to generate about 20 percent of campus
electricity demand. The 3,872 photovoltaic panels generate more than
1.5 million kilowatt hours of power annually. The Fresno State solar
system offsets about 950 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions —
equivalent to planting more than 24,300 trees or removing more than 200
cars from the road every year. [full

Students
in Fresno State animation, interior design and video courses are
getting a helping hand from Hollywood in the form of a $150,500 software
gift from Pixar Animation Studios. The studio has donated computer
software programs that will dramatically shorten the amount of time it

Luella
Cole (1977), a retired teacher of regular and special education
classes for students in kindergarten through eighth grade, was featured
in the Modesto Bee this April. She has had 6 opinion pieces published in
the Fresno Bee since 2004. Her favorite topics to write about are
education, politics and current events.
David
Francis will be this month's guest speaker at the Santa Maria Valley
Chamber of Commerce Business Development Committee luncheon. Francis has
been the superintendent of the Santa Maria-Bonita School District since
1999. He has more than 35 years of teaching and administrative
experience.
Brian
Bullock has been appointed to Vice President of Land Surveying at
Psomas in their Roseville, California office. With nearly 30 years of
experience, he has been a key player in Psomas' growth and success. This
success was built on developing a top-notch survey team as well as
providing outstanding client service.
Inman
Perkins was featured in the
Collegian for his Bulldog pride. Perkins
has been going to baseball games religiously at Fresno State since 1977.
Perkins has been known to climb on the dugout roof and pump up the
crowd. The team enjoys his spirit and take pride in Perkins support.
Glenn
Proctor (1985) , grape grower for Ciatti Co., presented at a seminar
this April. The “Ahead of the Curve” seminar was held at Copia in Napa,
CA and focused on the region’s grape growing market. He opined that
grape growing, specifically for wines, will continue on an upswing based
on supply and demand.
Thomas
Baker has been named grand marshal of the 60th annual Springville
Sierra Rodeo, which takes place April 25–27. Baker has had a long
association with the Springville Rodeo, since the time he and his wife
moved to the foothills in 1965. Perhaps the greatest legacy to the rodeo
is that he designed and built the bull head entrance to the Springville
Rodeo Grounds.
Ryan
Patterson (2004) and Katie Mathews (2004) are happy to
announce their engagement. The wedding ceremony will take place on May
31, in outdoor wedding ceremony in Ripon. The couple met in college and
were engaged on March 1 in Yosemite. They celebrated their engagement on
April 12 at Matthews's sister's home.
Paul
Hansen (1982) and Jocelyn Ayaay are happy to announce their
commitment to each other. A ceremony will take place in Philippines.
James
Gonzalez (1992) won his third consecutive Associated Press Mark
Twain Award for the "Best Newscast - 30 minutes" category. The award was
presented on March 15th at a banquet in the Globe Theater at Universal
Studios.
Herman
Calad (1972) has announced his retirement. A Stockton native, Calad
worked 21 years in Stockton schools before he got a job as assistant
principal at Tracy High in 1993. Three years later, he stepped up as
interim principal when West High opened, a job that became permanent.
Patrick
Anastasio has announced his retirement from Tracy High as Principal.
The Tracy native attended local schools from kindergarten through high
school. He majored in agriculture.
Carole
Goldsmith (1991) was recently awarded the Mariann Loniello Award
from the Association of Community and Continuing Education in
recognition for her work in education and economic development.
Joe
Moore (2000) was featured in the
Collegian for his 10 years
of service at the campus radio station. Moore began working for
KFSR in 1998
as a volunteer DJ and in 2004 he was hired as the first full-time
station manager for
KFSR. He
works with 30 volunteers to broadcast the station throughout the Fresno
metro area and Fresno County and reaching 30,000 listeners weekly.
Kevin
Phillips (2000) and Lori Dias, of Stockton, were married last June.
They were married on June 16, 2007, at the Cathedral of the Annunciation
with Father John Armistead officiating. The two spent a 10-day
honeymoon in Aruba and have made their home in Acampo.
Steve
Kliewer (1974) has been chosen as Teacher of the Year at Paso Robles
High School in Paso Robles, CA. Mr. Kliewer teaches physics and is an
instructor for the
Endeavor Academy. He was also named a fellow by the QuarkNet
Collaboration. QuarkNet is a national science education program that
provides teachers and students with tools to conduct experiments in the
classroom.
James
Harris is now a first-year surgical intern at Johns Hopkins
Hospital.

FSAA is hosting a new mentoring program! TASTE allows you to take two students to lunch and talk to them about your profession or industry. This is a great way for alumni to give back directly to students. Mentors can help current students learn to network and carry professional conversations. This
is a great opportunity for the busy professional wanting to volunteer their time!
