Forum at Fresno State addresses collegiate religious illiteracy -
Stephen Prothero, a best-selling author and professor calling for more
teaching about religion in public schools, will headline a California State
University, Fresno forum addressing religious illiteracy among American
college students. The event is the annual Veritas Forum at 7 p.m. March 11
at the Satellite Student Union. All events are free and open to the public [more].

Health Fair March 6 - Fresno Barrios Unidos, in partnership with Fresno
READS, will host a Friday Night Fiesta for children and their families at
Wolters Elementary School, 5174 N. First St., from 4 to 6:30 p.m. March 6.

Srinivasan
chairs International Crop Science Committee - Dr. Ganesan Srinivasan,
director of the University Agricultural Laboratory at California State
University, Fresno, will chair the International Crop Science Committee (ICSC)
for 2009 and make sustainable cropping systems the key committee focus [more].
State budget cuts to CSU impact service to students - The California State University will face an increasingly challenging fiscal situation over the next 17 months and beyond as a result of the budget package passed by the Legislature and signed by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger. The budget reduces state general fund support to the CSU for the current fiscal year, 2008-09, by $97.6 million, and calls for an additional $66.3 million cut for 2009-10. Overall, the reduction places CSU $283 million below its operational needs, or approximately 10 percent [more].

University, Fresno has scheduled an exciting 16-day travel study program for
this fall. You are invited to a special slide show presentation to preview
"Treasures of Angkor Wat and Vietnam" on Tuesday, March 10 at 4:30 p.m. in
Kremen Education, Room 140. This non-credit Smithsonian Journey will
depart Fresno on Nov 6, 2009 and includes visits to Bangkok, Angkor Wat,
Hanoi, Hoi An, Hue, Ho Chi Minh City, and the Mekong Delta.

Twain and Sid Fleischmanin - Newbery winning author, Sid Fleischman,
will be on Fresno State campus on Friday, March 13, to discuss his book The
Trouble Begins at 8: A Life of Mark Twain in the Wild, Wild West. His
appearance is a part of the 2009 The Big Read program of the Fresno County
Public Library and co-sponsored by ANCA, the
Arne Nixon Center
Advocates and the Friends of the Madden Library. The public is
invited to attend the reception at 6 p.m., followed by discussion with the

Greg Pruett (1979) has been elected by the board of directors of Pacific Gas and Electric Company as Senior VP of Corporate Relations.
Matthew
Morgan (2002) and Jennifer Mattos (2005) are happy to announce their
engagement. Jennifer graduated from Fresno State in 2005 with a
Bachelors of Arts degree in Psychology and is working as an Academic
Coach for Tulare County Office of Education. Matt graduated from Fresno
State in 2002 with a Bachelors of Science degree in Kinesiology and is
currently a self-employed personal trainer in Tulare.
Donna Alley (1986), Le Grand High School principal in Merced, will take over as district superintendent in July. She has served as principal at Le Grand High for five years. Before that she served three years as superintendent and principal at El Nido Elementary School District.
Douglass
Hubbard spoke at Lyon Books about his new book "Bound for Africa,"
as well as his background as a civilian special agent and police
officer. Hubbard is a graduate from Fresno State with a degree in
criminology. At the age of 22, he went to Washington D.C. and worked for
the Naval Intelligence Service, which is now known as NCIS.
Ronald Oliveira has been named Senior Vice President and Regional Agribusiness Manager at Rabobank in Salinas. A 22-year veteran of the banking industry, he served as president of Axio Financial Network and senior vice president and community banking manager for Union Bank of California.
Kenneth
Church (1965) has retired as Principal Engineer and President of
Blair, Church & Flynn Consulting Engineers after 39 years with the firm.
During that time the company grew from a staff of 6 to over 70
employees.
Gary
Washburn (1966) has been elected to the California Association of
Realtors Board of Directors. Washburn also serves as a Director of the
Southland Regional Association of Realtors and is a National Association
of Realtors Federal Political Coordinator (FPC) to Congressman Howard
'Buck' McKeon.
Cathy (Carothers) Baur (1982) recently accepted a position at Cal State San Marcos located in San Marcos, CA as Associate Vice President of Communications.
