Volunteer opportunity! National Make a Difference Day will be on Saturday, October 24th from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The Jan & Bud Richter Center for Community Engagement and Service-Learning needs volunteers to participate in one of two projects (1) trail building with the Sierra Foothill Conservancy or, (2) display refurbishment at Rotary Storyland. Kirk Nelson (1981) is the owner of Design Intervention in Laguna Beach. Design Intervention and IA Construction, Inc. mixes its resources as an architectural interior designer firm, creator of fine art and general contracting company to provide unique comprehensive design and construction services.
Marjorie Brandon has been recognized for her art, poetry, private art instruction and her involvement in a variety of arts organizations. She has served on many boards, including Visalia Arts Consortium, Arts Council, AAUW and others. The Brandon-Mitchell Gallery was also named in her honor.
Thomas Goodwin, Stephen Abas, Laura Berg and Trent Dilfer will be inducted into the Fresno Athletic Hall of Fame on November 5, 2009.
John Ledbetter (1975) was chosen as an inductee for the Lodi Community Hall of Fame. John is a LIFE member if the FSAA
John Dugan was hired as the new planning and development director for Fresno. Prior to this position, Dugan was the deputy director of planning for Los Angeles and the director of planning for Oklahoma City.
John Sawyer has been appointed associate provost for professional education at the University of Delaware for three years.
Theresa (Avillar) Speake (1983) was awarded the Ronald H. Brown Leadership Award by the U.S. Department of Commerce. This award recognizes individuals who are willing to take risks to achieve change and who have demonstrated exceptional leadership by significantly enhancing the development of diversity in domestic and worldwide economies. Theresa is a LIFE member if the FSAA
Carl Nelson opened Cullen Creek, an olive oil mill in Sanger. The company began processing and bottling oil from its own 400 acres, and plans to add acreage from other growers.
Red Estes caught a 303-pound halibut while fishing on Glacier Bay, Alaska. Red is a LIFE member if the FSAA
Christy Burnett (2003) has been appointed the new head coach of Lake Oswego Volleyball team in Oregon.
