The Fresno State Alumni Association was presented four Gold Awards at the Fresno Advertising Federation’s annual ADDY Awards held on March 22nd. This is the industry’s largest competition for creative excellence and provides recognition to the talent and expertise of the advertising, marketing, public relations and commercial art community.
The Gold Awards were for “Grad-in-a-Box” in the packaging category; “California Here I Come!” and “PAW—Parent Alumni Weekend” in the special events invitation category; and “Gameday-in-a-Box” in the specialty advertising category.
New website pays tribute to President Welty
Did you know that the marching band’s annual holiday performance at University House is one of President Welty’s favorite Fresno State memories? Or that during his presidency, $425 million in new facilities were constructed on campus? These are among the many facts and features included in a new Web microsite paying tribute to President Welty and his 22 years at Fresno State. Created by the University Communications Web team, the site is now available at www.FresnoState.edu/Welty. The site includes President Welty’s biography, top achievements, favorite moments at Fresno State, photos and videos. There also is a page where individuals can offer their retirement wishes for Dr. Welty, who concludes his tenure at Fresno State on July 31.

Lynne Ashbeck (1977) has been elected Mayor for the City of Clovis. She was first elected to the Clovis City Council in 2001.
Greg J. Chavez (Student) has been named the general manger of C.O.R.E. Sports Nutrition in Fresno, Calif. He placed 2nd in Novice and Middleweight Divisions at the Clovis Bodybuilding show last year, too.
Casey Creamer (2002), with the California Cotton Ginners and Growers Association; Christopher Stetsko(Alumnus) of Rose Strategic Advisors;Claudia Ruiz (2007) with the City of Fresno; Dallas Neumann-Johns(2003) of the Arnold Law Group; Daniel Hartwig (2003, ’06) with the Nisei Farmers League; Hank Charles(2009) of the Fresno State Alumni Association, Katie Stevens (2011) with the Fresno Mayor’s Office; and Pha Mouavangsou (Student) of ITT Tech have each been named to Fresno Online Busniess Street’s “40 Under 40” list for 2012, recognized in March of 2013.
Edmund D’Arcy-Clarke (1973, ’77) was recently posthumously awarded a Purple Heart and a Prisoner of War Medal for his service in the U.S. Army during World War II. More
Vernon Gambetta (1969) is currently is the Director of Gambetta Sports Training Systems located in Sarasota, Florida. He has been the a conditioning coach for several teams in Major League Soccer, as well as the conditioning consultant to the US Men’s World Cup Soccer team. He is the former Director of Conditioning for the Chicago White Sox and Director of Athletic Development for the New York Mets.
Doug Krikorian (1965), a sports journalist for the past 44 years, has had his book, “Between the Bylines… The Life, Love and Loss of Los Angeles’ Most Colorful Sports Journalist,” recently published. It includes his interviews with some of the biggest names in sports including Wilt Chamberlain, Jerry West, Elgin Baylor, Georgia Frontiere and Al Davis.
Larry Knuth (1964) has authored the recently-published “Classic Track & Field Tales: History and humor from athletes, coaches, journalists and fans.” The former Bulldogs’ track athlete’s book includes 90 stories and 300 photos.
Peter Robertson (1992, 1995, 2005) will be inducted into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi on April 17th at Fresno State.
Jess C. Rodriguez (1971) has spent the past 21 years researching for the recently published – “Hispanic Profiles of Victory: Interviews with Latinos That Succeeded Against Adversity and How They Did It” – about those of Hispanic decent and the obstacles overcome to find success in America.
Sylvia Ross (1969) has released her latest book “East of the Great Valley: The Story of Merab McCreary.” It’s about the struggle of good settlers trying to do the right thing against the pressure of popular opinion in California from 1956-70.
Adam Stirrup (2003, ’05) has joined the law firm Baradat & Paboojian. He holds a juris doctorate from San Joaquin College of Law; and serves on the board of directors of the Fresno State Alumni Association.
