Student receives national award for civic service

Denise Barnes (Student) has been named Miss Fresno County. She will represent Fresno County at the Miss California Pageant later this year.
Scott Barton (1982) serves as the CEO and Director of the Fresno Chaffee Zoo, a position he’s held since 2009. The Zoo recently held groundbreaking ceremonies for the new African Adventure exhibit.
Brett Behlen (2011) and Kayli Gobeli(Student) appear on the cover of the March issue of “Central Valley,” a special publication of “The Fresno Bee.” Behlen is described as a “real-life” cowboy; and Gobeli was named the 2013 Clovis Rodeo Queen.More
Roe Borunda (Student) won the College Entrepreneur of the Year Award at the 2014 Valley Business Awards, sponsored by the Greater Fresno Chamber of Commerce. She’s a staff photographer with “The Collegian,” the student-operated newspaper; and owns a photography business, Roetography.
Dick Caglia (1965) was presented the Leon S. Peters Award at the 2014 Valley Business Awards, sponsored by the Greater Fresno Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Caglia owns and operates Electric Motor Shop.
Coreen (Aguilar) Campos (2012) has been appointed CEO to Focus Forward, which serves youth in Fresno County Systems. She is also a co-founder of H.O.P.E. (Helping Others Pursue Education) Matters.
David Cehrs (1970, ’75) will be the guest speaker for the Unitarian Universalist Church of Fresno’s Town Hall on Sun. April 20, 2014.
Larry Duncan (1969) received the Harold Zinkin Entrepreneur of the Year Award at the 2014 Valley Business Awards, sponsored by the Greater Fresno Chamber of Commerce. He owns and operates iLOVETOCREATE.
Analiese Friesen (2009, ’11) and Brian Domingos, Jr. (2005) were married on January 18, 2014 at Mission San Carlos Borroméo del río Carmelo, which was founded in Carmel, Calif. in 1771. Domingos serves on the Fresno State Alumni Association board of directors, as well as the vice president for engagement.
Augie Garrido (1961), a former Fresno State outfielder and a 1996 inductee into the Fresno Athletic Hall of Fame, has become the winningest coach (1,894) in college baseball history as his Texas Longhorns defeated Texas State earlier in the week. Garrido was named a Top Dog Alumnus Awardee by the Fresno State Alumni Association, on behalf of the Department of Athletics, in 2002. Congratulations! More

Diana Gomez (1988), the Central Valley Regional Director at California High Speed Rail Authority, was recently featured on the front-page of “The Collegian” in an article about high-speed rail. She serves on the board of directors of the Fresno State Alumni Association. More

James Medina (2006) has been named the managing editor of the “Ventura County Star,” owned and operated by the Scripps Interactive Newspapers Group. He has worked for the newspaper off and on for about 20 years. Medina previously worked as a reporter or editor in Florida, Bakersfield and Santa Barbara.
Rick Mirigian (Alumnus) has been named Advisor/Manager of the Year for the State of California by a media panel consisting of representatives from Boxingscene, ESPN, Comcast Sportsnet, and The San Francisco Chronicle. He current represents Jose Ramirez, the U.S. Olympian and Fresno State Bulldog from Avenal, Calif.
Diana (Bates) Mock (1976) has been named Vice President, Advancement and University Relations at Fresno Pacific University. She joined FPU in 2001 as director of communications and university relations. A marketing industry veteran, her titles over the years have included advertising copywriter, creative director, public relations director and independent marketing consultant.

Vincent Ricchiuti (2005) of Enzo Olive Oil, a product of Bella Frutta and P-R Farms in Clovis, Calif., has become a certified oleologist – an expert of olive oil – during a recent five-day course in New York. He’s a proud 3rd generation Fresno State graduate. Complimenti!
Faith Sidlow (2008) wrote the story, “A Love Tail,” about her two dogs, that was published in the Feb. 2014 issue of “Fresno Life” magzine. She’s an adjunct professor in the Mass Communication & Journalism Department at Fresno State, andhas spent the last 28 years as a news reporter and morning anchor at KSEE 24, the NBC affiliate in Fresno, Calif.
Ashley Swearengin (1994, ’97), the current, two-time elected mayor of the City of Fresno; has announced her candidacy for controller for the State of California. She was named a Top Dog Alumni Awardee by the Fresno State Alumni Association on behalf of the Craig School of Business in 2010; and last year was added to the Working for California list, a project of the Chancellor’s Office of The California State University.
Carol Tikijian (1973, ’85) had an exhibit, “Draw the Line,” on display throughout the month of March at Gallery 25 in Fresno, Cailf.
Jacq M. Wilson (1996) is an attorney with Allan M. Schuman & Associates located in San Francisco. As a student, he served as editor-in-chief of “Uhuru Na Umoja.”
