New "ASI President's Award" supports student body leaders - A new scholarship has been established to provide financial support to future Fresno State student body presidents during their term. The annual award will be provided by the Bulldog Pride Fund, a scholarship of the Fresno State Alumni Association. Since 2006, the Bulldog Pride Fund has raised nearly $243,000 for its endowment and has provided 23 scholarships valued at $39,000. Details →

Taylor Abels (2012) has been selected No. 2 in the "Top 20 Best in the Valley" list compiled by "The Fresno Bee" columnist Donald Munro. She was a "standout" in "Urinetown," as well as "impressive" in productions of "Next to Normal," "Ordinary Days," and "A Little Night Music." Congratulations!
Brooke Aiello (2003) portrayed the lead character in "Hamlet" produced by the New Ensemble and directed by Heather Parish. She was selected No. 3 in the "Top 20 Best in the Valley" list compiled by columnist Donald Munro of "The Fresno Bee."
Jacqueline Antaramian (1985) portrayed Maria Callas in StageWorks Fresno's production of "Master Class" last spring, directed by Joel Abels (1996). The "Live From Lincoln Center," "Utah Shakespeare Festival" and "Metropolitan Opera" alumna has performed in more than 70 plays on-and-off Broadway; and was selected No. 5 in the "Top 20 Best in the Valley" list compiled by "The Fresno Bee" columnist Donald Munro.
Scott Barnes (1992) has had his science fiction story, "Insect Sculptor," selected for inclusion in the latest anthology "L. Ron Hubbard Presents Writers of the Future" (Vol. XXVIII). He's one of 28 winners, selected from more than 10,000 entries. He was recently interviewed in The Collegian. More →
Jacquie Broach (1986) portrays Gaynette Verdeen in the 2nd Space Theater production of "The Red Velvet Cake War." Performances run through Feb. 24, 2013.
Leah Bigham (2010) has published her first book for children – "Solitaire's First Fall." It an enlightening story of a maple tree who learns about the changes he must undergo each season.
James "Jim" Boren (1972) has been named the executive editor of "The Fresno Bee." A 43-year veteran at the McClatchy-owned newspaper, he started working there while still a student at Fresno State. This past October, the Alumni & Friends Mass Communication & Journalism Chapter named him a Fellow at its Hall of Fame induction ceremony. Congratulations!
Ryan Caglia (2007, '12) and Dominique Avila (2004) are engaged to be married. His proposal was quite involved and included a helicopter and the Pacific Southwest Building. No wedding date has been set.
Cary Catalano (1999), owner and operator of Catalano Fenske & Associates, has combined his company and its resources to collaborate with Suzanne Bertz-Rosa of Bertz-Rosa Strategy-Creative.
California Public Theatre recently presented two sold-out performances of "Rent" at the Tower Theatre. Ensemble cast members included Alisse Christensen (2003) and Josh Smith (2010). The musical was directed by S. Eric Day (2003).
Aaron Craver (Alumnus) is an eight-year NFL veteran who had stints with the Dolphins, Denver Broncos, San Diego Chargers and New Orleans Saints. He returned to his hometown of Compton in 1991 and founded the non-profit Lightspeed Track Club with his wife, Dawn Craver (1986). Today, the former Bulldog standout isn't too far from field – he's currently a football coach at Woodbridge High School in Irvine. Go Warriors!
Cary Edmondson (2002) and Elaine San Agustin were married on Oct. 13, 2012 in Clovis, Calif. He's Fresno State's official photographer.
Carole Goldsmith (1991, 2005) has been named president of West Hills College Coalinga. She holds a bachelors of arts degree in history, as well as a doctorate in educational leadership, both from Fresno State; and is the 7th President in the college's 80 year history, and the first female to hold this position.
The Fresno Art Museum will feature an exhibition "Breakthrough" that includes the works of young, contemporary artists: Leslie Batty (2006), Laura Goldstone (2003); and Julia Woli Scott (2011, '13). The exhibit runs from Jan. 24 to April 28, 2013. Details →

David Kilby (1977) serves as the executive vice president of corporate affairs for the California Chamber of Commerce, based in Sacramento. Established 120 years ago, The Chamber boasts more than 13,000 members.
Genelle Taylor Kumpe (1995) has opened Blown Away – a hair salon specializing in wash, blow and style – at River Park in Fresno, Calif. She is the associate director of Fresno State's Lyles Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship.
Natalie Margulis (Student) shows one of her favorite books, Charles Dickens' "David Copperfield," in front of a wall of books that stretches the length of her apartment in downtown Fresno. She owns more than 10,000 books and was recently highlighted in "The Fresno Bee."
Johnny Mendez, Jr. (2012) has been named a sales consultant with the Arizona State University Athletic Department. He still considers himself a proud "Bulldog Forever!" and cut his teeth at Fresno State with Bulldog Sports Properties.
Brandon Molale (1996) appears as Jimmy "Bockscar" Knox in the "Gangster Squad" coming to theaters on January 11, 2013. Jimmy Knox is nicknamed 'Bockscar' for the name of the United States Army Air Forces B-29 bomber that dropped the "Fat Man" nuclear weapon over Nagasaki on August 9, 1945. The Warner Bros. movie co-stars Josh Brolin, Ryan Gosling, Nick Nolte, Emma Stone; and Sean Penn as Mickey Cohen.
Joel Pickford (2009) was named No. 15 on the "Top 20: Best in the Valley" list compiled by Donald Munro, a columnist with "The Fresno Bee." His recent Fresno Art Museum exhibit – "Soul Calling: A Photographic Journey through the Hmong Diaspora" took eight years to shoot and included numerous trips to Laos.
Tim Rios (1993), a senior vice president for Wells Fargo Bank, has been elected to a four-year term on the board of the James Irvine Foundation.
J. Patrick "Pat" Rogers (1972) received the Distinguished Engineering Achievement Award from The Engineers' Council at the 56th annual Honors and Awards Banquet for "demonstrating model leadership, personal humility, commitment to the highest standards of technical integrity, and dedication to teammates. Employed by The Boeing Company for more than 35 years, he is currently a laboratory test engineer based in Huntington Beach.
Award-winning author and poet Gary Soto (1974) was mentioned on the front page of "The New York Times" (Dec. 5, 2012) in the article "For Young Latino Readers, an Image is Missing." The self-described "cheerleader for reading" has had many books published that include characters of diverse ethnic backgrounds. Soto was named an "Outstanding Alumnus" by the Fresno State Alumni Association on behalf of the College of Arts and Humanities in 2004; and Fresno City College houses the recently-opened Gary Soto Literary Museum in the Old Administration Building.
Russel Statham (2009, '11), was recently selected as Chair of the Board of Directors of Study California, Inc., a new non-profit corporation that represents educational institutions in California.
Craig Swogger (1994), a State of California Licensed Acupuncturist, has established a location offering his services in Santa Monica. He holds a Master of Fine Arts from the University of California, Davis; and a Master of Traditional Chinese Medicine from Yo San University.
Ashley Taylor (2005) appeared in the Organic Theatre Company's production of "Ordinary Days." Donald Munro, columnist with "The Fresno Bee," included her as No. 20 on his "Top 20 Best in the Valley" list. By day, Taylor is a producer for "Great Day" with KMPH FOX 26.
Glen Teter (1971) and Stan Canby (1978), owners of Teter LLP and Canby Architectural Studio, Inc., respectively, have merged to form a full-service design and engineering shop for public and private builders under the name Teter.
Michael Valles (1998) has recently opened his third SoCal location for Interior Illusions in West Hollywood. Additional locations for the well-known and highly-respected interior design studio include Santa Monica and Palm Springs.
