A Welcome to the Center for Creativity and the Arts
from Executive Director, Shane Moreman, PhD.

Greetings, and thank you for visiting our website.

The Center for Creativity and the Arts (CCA) is a new institute that encourages imaginative learning by starting with the arts as the guiding influence. As the Executive Director, I nurture CCA to foster new thoughts and recognize existing innovation. Drawing from our university and from our communities, CCA forms alliances across disciplines and across our region to promote new approaches to contemporary issues.

Each year, a theme is developed that shapes programmatic focus. Arising out of consultation from a Steering Committee, Faculty Coordinators, an Advisory Board and the surrounding community, the theme serves to encourage and harmonize resourcefulness.

After CCA chooses a theme, we seek out a visual artist who inspires inquiry and dialogue in parallel to our theme. We solicit our campus and our communities to propose artists and/or art exhibitions they would like to see hosted at Fresno State.

We then invite and commission this artist to create their theme-informed art on our campus. During their residency, the artist engages with university students and the larger community. Additionally, we bring K-12 students to our campus so that they, too, can witness the artist's creative process. To help these younger students, curriculum is provided to their teachers so their arts experience is more educationally relevant.

Finally, throughout the year, CCA includes and encourages other individuals and organizations transforming our region with their own events in accord with our theme. The result is a focused public dialogue across a diversity of peoples and institutes. With CCA as the hub and with the arts as our motivation, creativity is inspired and realized.

Please join us in our endeavors. On this website you will find our calendar of events along with further explanation of who we are. We welcome you to participate as audience and as partners.

For further conversation, I am available by email ( or by phone (559.278.2994). Please do not hesitate to contact me.
