The graduate programs in English and Creative Writing are lively communities of scholars and writers. Seminars and workshops are small and discussion-based. The Master of Arts (MA) in Literature or Composition Theory helps you build depth and focus in your chosen field of English and prepares you for a variety of careers or further graduate study. The Master of Fine Arts (MFA) degree in Creative Writing is a terminal degree, through which you hone and stretch your talents as a writer, gaining expertise in fiction, poetry, and creative nonfiction.
Teaching Associate positions (TAships) are available to qualified graduate students in the English MA and MFA Creative Writing programs with the English Department. For eligible post-baccalaureate and non-matriculated students, the department also offers a Certificate of Advanced Study in Composition and a Certificate of Special Study in Creative Writing.
