Research Interests of Participating FacultyChristine Edmondson, Psychology.“The Anger Disorders Validity Project” is designed to assess the validity of anger syndromes in a college student counseling sample. In addition, the Anger Disorders Validity Project is developing behavioral observation procedures for evaluating the types of anger management strategies used by individuals with various types of psychopathology. The Composite International Diagnostic Interview (CIDI, World Health Organization, 2002) is used to determine research participants’ psychiatric diagnosis. Then, participants complete a modified role-play of anger-provoking situations. The modified role-play is videotaped using digital video cameras and allows for the assessment of behavioral and cognitive aspects of anger responses. The digital videos are edited using computers prior to observations. Students are involved in data entry and checking activities, making behavioral observations and coding cognitive aspects of role-play responses, quality control of all aspects of data collection, conducting literature reviews and submitting preliminary research reports to conferences. The students are supervised by the principal investigator and clinical liaison along with the paid research staff (a postdoctoral intern, graduate students, and advanced undergraduate students). The research team provides the foundation for the development of honors students’ independent research on various aspects of anger management. |
