Research Interests of Participating Faculty

Miguel A. Pérez, Health Science.

The Central California Public Health Partnership (PHP) is a relatively new and unique regional planning approach dedicated to addressing the lack of comprehensive community health care systems endemic to the Central San Joaquin Valley, influencing access to health care services, and providing cultural and linguistic competency training. Facilitated by the Central California Center for Health and Human Services at California State University, Fresno, the PHP and its closely related Central California Public Health Training Academy are collaborative partnerships of the University’s College of Health and Human Services and the Fresno County Community Health Department, the Kern County Department of Public Health, the Kings County Department of Public Health, the Madera County Public Health Department, the Merced County Public Health Department, and the Tulare County Health and Human Services Agency. Together these entities represent the six largest rural counties in the Central San Joaquin Valley with a total population of over two million people. Currently, the PHP is focusing on issues related to diabetes prevention among residents in this diverse area. Students will be involved in all aspects of this research and will be assigned independent research projects.
