Mission and Goals of the Department of Biology

The Department's mission is to provide a diverse undergraduate and graduate programs that matches the breadth and excitement of modern biology, develops research and critical thinking skills, and prepares students for the hundreds of career opportunities that use biology as a foundation. Our goals are....

1. To provide Biology majors a broad background in the wfundamental concepts of the Biological Sciences.

2. To encourage students to develop critical thinking skills and develop intellectual independence.

3. To educate students regarding the methods and philosophy used to conduct scientific research in the Biological Sciences.

4. To encourage the development of communication skills, both written and oral, for purposes of conveying biological information to both professional scientists and the lay public.
