Application Information

[Prerequisites] [Applications]

Prerequisites

The interdisciplinary nature of biotechnology study often makes it difficult for students educated in undergraduate disciplinary majors to have completed all categories of prerequisite "B" prior to entry, so the entry requirements expect that three categories be met, but graduation requires them all to be met.  At a minimum, students will need to have completed both genetics and biochemistry lecture courses for entry into this curriculum.

  1. Appropriate Undergraduate Science Degree with Minimum 3.0 GPA in Science and Math Coursework
  2. Specific Coursework Requirements (California State University, Fresno equivalent courses). A minimum of three categories of prerequisites is required for admission/classification with the program, but all six categories of courses must be completed prior to awarding of the degree:

    1. General Genetics (BioSc 140A)

    2. Microbiology including a laboratory (Micro 140)

    3. Biochemistry including a laboratory (Chem 150 or 155 and Chem 156)

    4. Immunology including a laboratory (PhyAn 160 and 160L)

    5. Analytical Chemistry (Chem 105 or Chem 102)

    6. Statistics (Math 101)

The two-year program of study presented in the [Courses] web page suggests a sequence of courses that do not include additional prerequisites.  Students will need to consult their graduate advisor to determine the best sequencing of additional required prerequisites.

Descriptions of the prerequisite courses can be found in the California State University, Fresno [General Catalog]
