University Lecture Series

The University Lecture Series (ULS) is an educational forum that features distinguished speakers, performers, and public figures. The series seeks to provide quality lectures that will stimulate and enhance the intellectual climate of our university and surrounding communities.

Featured speakers have included motivational speaker and author Jack Canfield, poet and playwright June Jordan, former New York City assistant district attorney Robert F. Kennedy Jr., political activist and leader of the American Indian Movement Russell Means, and legendary White House reporter Helen Thomas.

The University Lecture Series is sponsored by the Office of the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. Additional funding is provided by Coke and James Hallowell, the University Student Union, and Associated Students, Inc. Special programs may be planned, supported, or jointly sponsored by off-campus groups.

Russell Means led the Indian insurrection at Wounded Knee in 1973.
He has portrayed the pride of his people with his roles
in The Last of the Mohicans, Natural Born Killers, and Wind Runner.

Helen Thomas

Legendary reporter Helen Thomas is known for her coverage of news from the White House.
She was the only print journalist who travelled with President Richard Nixon
when he visited China in 1972. She has also accompanied five presidents
in their travels around the world and covered every economic summit.
World Almanac named Thomas one of the most influential women in America in the 1970s.

June Jordan has become a highly published African American writer.

A prolific writer on the subject of the environment, Kennedy is a former New York City assistant district attorney.
