The University Lecture Series (ULS) brings distinguished scholars, performers, and public figures to California State University, Fresno. ULS programs stimulate and enhance the intellectual climate of the university and surrounding communities.

Featured speakers have included former New York City district attorney Robert F. Kennedy Jr., political activist and leader of the American Indian Movement Russell Means, legendary White House reporter Helen Thomas, Harvard Law Professor Randall Kennedy, and poet Phillip Levine.

A program of the Office of the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Lecture Series receives additional funding from Coke and James Hallowell, the University Student Union, Associated Students, Inc., Borders, and the Piccadilly Inn Hotels. Russell Means

A political activist and leader of the American Indian Movement,
Russell Means led the Indian insurrection at Wounded Knee in 1973.
He has portrayed the pride of his people with his roles
in The Last of the Mohicans, Natural Born Killers, and Wind Runner.

Helen Thomas

Legendary reporter Helen Thomas is known for her coverage of news from the White House.
She was the only print journalist who travelled with President Richard Nixon
when he visited China in 1972. She has also accompanied five presidents
in their travels around the world and covered every economic summit.
World Almanac named Thomas one of the most influential women in America in the 1970s.

Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.

A prolific writer on the subject of the environment,
Kennedy is a former New York City assistant district attorney.
He is currently a supervising attorney at the Environmental Litigation Clinic.

 

Phillip Levine

Winner of the Pulitzer Prize in 1995 for The Simple Truth,
Levine taught literature and creative writing at California State University, Fresno from 1958-92.
