SYBOP
Statewide Youth Board on Obesity Prevention
Through a generous grant from the California Center for Civic Participation, the Central California Regional Obesity Prevention Program (CCROPP) is undergoing various region-wide youth leadership activities led by the Statewide Youth Board on Obesity Prevention (SYBOP). SYBOP is a program of the California Center for Civic Participation, dedicated to developing resilient youth by building the capacity of communities, organizations and individuals to engage adolescents in effective policy and systems change efforts that promote the well-being of their peers and communities.
In order to build youth capacity and translate these skills into advocacy efforts that will bring change to our Central Valley region, each one of the CCROPP communities in eight participating counties (Fresno, Kern, Kings, Madera, Merced, San Joaquin, Stanislaus, and Tulare) will develop a SYBOP site team. Each team will be composed of three core youth and an adult coordinator.
The goal of each team will be to identify and work on addressing obesity health issues in their community. In order to do these, SYBOP will provide the participants with training and technical assistance to support their efforts and connect them with local and statewide policy and decision-makers to influence the obesity policy landscape and make positive changes in their local communities.
SYBOP receives support for the youth board from funding by The California Endowment and Kaiser Permanente.
