CAUSE: Specific to people Ages 65+
With impressive advances in medical services and the success of the Medicare program, U.S. residents are living longer and elders will continue to be the most important users of health care. The CAUSE approach is consistent with proposals from other leading health advocates such as the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) for improving Medicare. CAUSE seeks to update and improve affordability and effectiveness of Medicare by investing in health care quality and access to prescription drug benefits. Medicare Part D will be incorporated into CAUSE Part II (eliminating the “donut-hole” and reducing the costs of drugs). Additionally, Medicare will be redesigned to improve post-acute benefits and increase access to community oriented care.
