ACCESS TO ORAL HEALTH IN CENTRAL CALIFORNIA

The Central Valley Health Policy Institute through the Center for Health and Human Services, California State University, Fresno received funding through The California Endowment to conduct an 18-county oral health access profile to support planning and policy analysis related to care for low-income and underserved residents of the Central California region. In addition, the study explores socioeconomic factors associated with oral care access and offers policy recommendations for Central California based on study findings. Prior to this study, no data existed on oral health accessibility for the 18-county Central California region. Multiple research methods were applied, including a literature review, a quantitative survey, demographic and spatial analysis, qualitative interviews and regional focus groups. GIS-based maps include survey data and basic demographics.

Report findings and policy recommendations can be viewing this presentation.

Disclaimer
Thirty-four oral health key informants from the 18-county region were interviewed to assess oral health resources and access to oral care challenges for low-income residents.  County summaries of the qualitative interviews reflect the views of the key informants.  Summaries are not intended to provide a comprehensive listing of every oral health program, but rather a sample of programs available in each county.
